Hostile: When U.S. diplomatic staff at the American Embassy in Havana, Cuba, and in China began to fall ill earlier in December 2016, investigators were stumped as to why.

More than three dozen U.S. diplomats and family members living in Cuba and China reported confounding brain disorders like dizziness, headaches, and blurry vision.

So are the Chinese behind the attacks in both places or the Cubanos?

So, what security official at the Embassy decided not to invest in some microwave leak detectors?

I imagine Chinese shared the Intel operation with Cubans (maybe even the technology!).

I started this when the news first came out many months ago. However, they were not microwaves. They were terahertz waves which are just below the microwave band. They are used for spying..

Now comes the long line of deaths in both Cuban scientific and state security communities.

No way they can afford a defector. After all, it would be war under a DJT administration.

How many times are we going to rediscover this?

I would not know a magnetron from a klystron, from a hole in the ground.

But you might???
An opinion?

Magnetrons are a tube type device with strong magnets. Creates the fundamental frequency. Used to create high peak power in pulses. Radar used to use them before solid state arrays with many modules became most new designs. Microwave ovens also use them. Designed to produce a particular frequency.

Klystrons are tube type amplifiers which can be used for high power transmitters like radio stations. Used to boost another signal to the desired level.

Both invented before WWII. Another potentially high power amplifier is the TWT or traveling wave tube.
