Levi Strauss goes gun control: Have corporations gone mad?
Washington Times ^ | 9/6/18 | Cheryl Chumley

Posted on 09/06/2018 3:35:39 AM PDT by markomalley

Levi Strauss, the famous jeans maker and clothing manufacturer, has jumped into the gun control bed with none other than the king of anti-Second Amendment himself, Michael Bloomberg.

Do corporations these days have a death wish? Seriously, are they even in business to make money any more?

Or are they simply existing to serve as political arms of politicians’ political designs?

An interesting question to ponder: why are so many left-wing causes being embraced by corporations? It's not just BLM being embraced by Nike, Anti-2A being embraced by Levis, and the tech giants all being run by left-wing SJW's. This is a far more common problem throughout the corporate world than most of us would like to believe. Please don't get me wrong: I'm not saying ALL corporations, but I AM saying that a disturbing number of them are acting in this fashion.

I used to think that corporations had the sole mission of making money for their owners (shareholders) through the delivery of goods and services. As such, when they made political contributions to both Dems and Repukes they were simply hedging their bets on who would win elections, but in the past 15-20 years, I see so many of them backing far left causes that I am calling that into question.

For example, how many corporations were fully behind implementation of Obamacare when it was patently obvious that it was going to cause prices to skyrocket? Sure, it's easy to see why Pharma, Insurance, Lawyers, and Hospitals would fall in behind that move (guaranteed market share increase), but how about companies that had no connection to these industries...for example, Wal Mart? And, to a degree, the defense industry?? Telecom?? (see https://www.opensecrets.org/news/2010/03/number-of-special-interest-groups-v/ in case you doubt me) -- the more money sunk into government-mandated health insurance, the greater the costs rise for the corporations, the more pressure exists to reduce government discretionary spending, and the less money available for consumers to spend on these corporations' products and services. Like I say, it's counter-intuitive.

So I'd be interested to hear why you think these corporations have a death wish...

Ask their institutional investors.

I got that, but still, it makes little sense that some fund manager from Fidelity, T Rowe Price, or the like would want them to take controversial positions that would hurt the bottom line.

One would think that there is a difference between being amoral and stupid. Maybe not.

It is a large country club with the Senate hosting. Repeal the 17th Amendment and this type of garbage will go away.

It takes an MBA.

Seriously, check out the institutional ownership of the companies going SJW. There are some interesting commonalities.

Haven’t bought Levi’s in 20+ years since they funded million mom march and helped make BSA gay.

Old story.

At first they folded because leftwingers scream the loudest so if they got one angry twitter post they wet their pants. Conservatives especially before usually weren’t around to counter them because they had actual jobs. Unfortunately this has become a reinforcing cycle and you have a mix of execs who have actually adapted social justice as a religion and those that follow out of fear. So being religious zealots they’ve done what everybody thought was impossible and the corporation now cares more about spreading leftwing propaganda than making money.

I haven’t bought Levis in years. Loved ‘em. They used to be what I lived in. Sigh. And I’ve never owned a Nike product. Unless we’re talking healthcare, companies that think folks can’t live without their product need their board’s heads examined.

I don’t understand any of this and why so many people are making such a big deal about it.

Dicks ... Sales and revenue in the toilet and circling the bowl

Kapernick / Nike ... whoever the marketing person(s) that made that decision should be help up like a hero for exposing their true feelings. Now the sweatshops, abuse of workers, and working conditions can be exposed. Maybe do some investigating to see if Nike is actually having their sneakers made in North Korea and funneled thru the Chinese. Lots of great press to go around. Lets have all the liberals start paying $150 a pair to support Phil Knight, while simultaneously protesting the abuse, pay and working conditions of the workers.

Amazon ... no different, but every one loves the fact that they can never leave their homes and have things in the next day or two. Never thinking about how Bezos’ workers are treated like cattle. The very workers that Liberals/the Left/Unions say they love so much.

But, at the end of the day, it’s Kapernick’s right to do and say what he does. It’s Nike’s right to do and say what they do. It’s Levis’ right to do and say what they do.

But, it’s also the right of the SILENT MAJORITY, to acknowledge those rights, not say a damn thing, and just as quietly never purchase another item from any of them. Never watch another pro football game. Never buy another football jersey.

Just, NOD, our collective heads, carry on with our lives, and give any of them another cent. That is for more painful to them than any protests, marches, meme’s, letters, interviews, whatever.

Simple, starting after WW2 a college education became a mandatory requirement for corporate employment. A generation or so later almost all management in corporations has been processed thru the re education camps that were once our great universities. They practice some muted form of capitalism while embracing full blown sedition which will, ultimately, kill the roots of capitalism.

You clearly are well informed on these types of things, care to tell those of us such as myself who aren't what you already know? The suspense is killing me here, seriously.

Vast majority of the stock is institutionally owned by the same institutions. It would be interesting to see if any of the boards are running thus SJW crap 2by their big investors before they do it. Or if their investors were the ones doing the suggesting. Hmmmm....

Wonder if the SEC has any interest in this since I could see small investors getting seriously screwed by this crap.

People feel powerless to stop all the bad things from happening in society..they want to know things will be better. If the company they give money to looks as if they are trying to make life better the customer will feel good bout spending money there. Only.giving 1 million away?
I read that levis make “signature” brand jeans for walmart...walmart jeans...17 bucks....levis 55 bucks...i buy Lee or Wranglers before i spend 55 bucks. Essentially the same product...great opportunity for jeans maker...make a pair that is concealed carry or gun carry friendly....make it sturdy and instant money will flow..

"Repeal the 17th Amendment and this type of garbage will go away."

I agree 100% but how would you ever get 2/3 of the senators to vote to eliminate their cushy position? especially those senators whose state legislatures are controlled by the opposition party. Well, anyway, we can dream...

I guess I should write down and make list of all the companies I’m boycotting. Can’t keep them all straight in my mind anymore.
