Donald Trump: Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan Do Not Want a Pre-Election Government Shutdown

President Donald Trump said he would not force a government shutdown over wall funding and border security before the midterm elections, suggesting that he made a deal with House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. “They’d rather not do it before, they’d rather do it right after the election, they don’t want to do anything to upset the apple cart,” Trump said in an interview with Fox and Friends host Pete Hegseth aired on Friday.

Trump said that if it were up to him, he would force a shutdown over border security but that “many great people” urged him to wait.

“Most likely I will not do that, but we’re going to do it immediately after the election, I have the commitment from Mitch McConnell, from Paul Ryan from everybody,” he said.

If Trump believes Ryan & McConnell Will fund the Wall after the election, then the 25 Amendment nuts may have cause.

Yeah, I don’t like this BUT if he beats this issue like a dead horse, this issue could turn out the base in the election.

Exactly, there’s no such thing as a deal with these two snakes. They wouldn’t honor a $10 bet.

“Most likely I will not do that, but we’re going to do it immediately after the election, I have the commitment from Mitch McConnell, from Paul Ryan from everybody,” he said.

After the election Trump will not have the leverage.

What he'll have is a Paul Ryan promise.

At this point it wouldn’t be a good idea, but he had enough time when he signed the Omnibus 1.3 trillion dollar budget.

A shutdown would NOT be a winner... some folks here didn’t learn from Cruz’s stunt a few years back.

We are getting Judges, not just supreme court, but federal judges across the board, confirmed... we are getting regulation rolled back... economy is booming...

Shutting the government down for a grandstanding ploy prior to the election would not help anyones cause...

The narrative for the fall is simple, Vote for GOP so we can get the border done, the Dems won’t help us do it... If you shut the government down the narrative is folks not getting their social security, or paychecks (even though they will get paid in full for not working after its all done).....

Shutdown at this point is a non starter and bad politics....

If we focus on the real issues in this election--the isues that go to whether America is to have a recognizable future, the vote should put the fear of a reckoning in the Rhino camps, that could do wonders for Republican unity.

The Last Chance?

Also it seems they are passing individual department funding....so the massive "buget continuing resolution" will not take place for the first time in many years.

More MAGA WIN.

“I have the commitment from Mitch McConnell, from Paul Ryan from everybody,”

I wouldn’t bet the farm on a commitment from those two.

THen I expect continuing resolution and not a Budget as he said he’d never sign another like the last, correct?

The regular order has returned. The congress will present the president with I believe ten or perhaps twelve appropriation bills that are specific and not related to immigratin or the wall.

There will not be an omnibus appropriation

I think there are at least two and possibly four such specific appropriations that will be delayed until after the election.

The important fact is that most of the funds required to run the government will be appropriated before the September 30 end of the fiscal year.

McConnell and Ryan do not want to fund the wall any more than Schumer or Pelosi.

I agree. Trump will be stronger after the election and Ryan will be gone.

Ryan will be gone, and Mitch is going to have more Trump Senators to deal with.
