I had a lot of respect for Musk but I think we are witnessing his becoming unhinged.

Is he having some sort of midlife crisis?

Yep. Sad to see it. Hopefully he can turn it around.

Musk truly believes we are all living in a “simulator”. That is, we are all lines of code in an artificial “reality”. We simply do not exist, except as electronic pulses in some otherworldly reality. Believing that, he might be losing it because he is convinced he’s not real and his “accomplishments” were code written by an unknown other intelligence.

Dude needs to take a year-long leave of absence and have a live-in life-coach to get back on track. I’ve seen 4.0 engineering students like this, too. They’re so used to being the little prodigy that can do no wrong that they just expect it to last forever. When they start a project that they can’t make work, they just fall apart and completely spiral. That’s what we’re seeing here. Elon thought that he could make Tesla work by putting in 20 hour days and sleeping at the factory. When he got it through his head that he couldn’t turn it around, he just mentally crashed.
