Trump Adviser Suggests Cruz Isn't Likable Enough to Be Re-elected
WRAL ^ | October 8, 2016 | By Alexander Burns and Kenneth P. Vogel, New York Times

President Donald Trump’s budget chief, Mick Mulvaney, expressed confidence to Republican donors Saturday that the party would overcome a Democratic “movement of hate” in November, but he acknowledged Republicans could lose races where they have nominated candidates who are not seen as “likable” enough, like Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas.

This is fake news - nobody believes the NY Times!

Also, why are you making fun of Ted? We need to get behind him.

I can get behind him, but still poke fun.

If he didn’t conduct himself the way he did in 2016, probably nobody here would even think of making fun of him.

Mulvaney is a jackass, making a statement that got into the media which undermines a solidly conservative Senate voice. I could not care less about any bitterness or hostility between Trump and Cruz - I don't personally know either of them, nor do I care about their feelings - all I care about is the fact that both of them can enact policies which will benefit the country. Both of them need to work together and support each other. And morons like Mulvaney really need to be told to shut the hell up.

Just a snippet of Ted Cruz's credentials, and why we should be fighting for him... since he has been fighting for us for decades (and he is still young):

Princeton 1988-1992:
Graduated cum laude, won the top speaker award at both the 1992 U.S. National Debating Championship and the 1992 North American Debating Championship, and named U.S. National Speaker of the Year.
Cruz's senior thesis at Princeton investigated the separation of powers; its title, Clipping the Wings of Angels, draws its inspiration from a passage attributed to US President James Madison: "If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary." Cruz argued that the drafters of the Constitution intended to protect the rights of their constituents, and that the last two items in the Bill of Rights offer an explicit stop against an all-powerful state

Harvard 1992-1995:
graduating magna cum laude in 1995 with a Juris Doctor degree. While at Harvard Law, he was a primary editor of the Harvard Law Review, an executive editor of the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy, and a founding editor of the Harvard Latino Law Review. Referring to Cruz's time as a student at Harvard Law, Professor Alan Dershowitz said, "Cruz was off-the-charts brilliant". Competed at the 1995 World Debating Championship, losing in the semi-finals to a team from Australia.

1997-1998:
While with the firm Cooper, Carvin & Rosenthal, Cruz worked on matters relating to the National Rifle Association, and helped prepare testimony for the impeachment proceedings against President Bill Clinton.

1999:
Cruz joined the George W. Bush presidential campaign as a domestic policy adviser (at age 28)

2000-2001:
Cruz assisted in assembling the Bush legal team, devising strategy, and drafting pleadings for filing with the Supreme Court of Florida and U.S. Supreme Court in the case Bush v. Gore during the 2000 Florida presidential recounts, leading to two wins for the Bush team. Cruz personally recruited future Chief Justice John Roberts to the Bush legal team. (He's not 30 years old yet!!!!!)

2003-2008:
Texas Solicitor General...
Cruz authored 70 U.S. Supreme Court briefs and presented 43 oral arguments, including nine before the United States Supreme Court. Cruz argued before the Supreme Court nine times, more than any practicing lawyer in Texas or any current member of Congress..
In the landmark case of District of Columbia v. Heller, Cruz drafted the amicus brief signed by the attorneys general of 31 states, which said that the Washington, D.C. handgun ban should be struck down as infringing upon the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.
Cruz successfully defended the constitutionality of the Ten Commandments monument on the Texas State Capitol grounds before the Fifth Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court, winning 5–4 in Van Orden v. Perry.
In 2004, Cruz won the high-profile case surrounding a challenge to the constitutionality of requiring student recitation in public schools of the Pledge of Allegiance (including the words "under God", legally a part of the Pledge since 1954), Elk Grove Unified School District v. Newdow.
Cruz also successfully defended, in Medellin v. Texas, the State of Texas against an attempt to re-open the cases of 51 Mexican nationals, all of whom were convicted of murder in the United States and were on death row.

2012:
Cruz's victory in the Republican primary was described by the Washington Post as "the biggest upset of 2012 ... a true grassroots victory against very long odds". In the Republican senatorial primary, Cruz ran against sitting Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst. Cruz was endorsed first by former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.

Cruz has sponsored 25 bills of his own, including:
S.177, a bill to repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and the health-care related provisions of the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010, introduced January 29, 2013
S.505, a bill to prohibit the use of drones to kill citizens of the United States within the United States, introduced March 7, 2013
S.729 and S. 730, bills to investigate and prosecute felons and fugitives who illegally purchase firearms, and to prevent criminals from obtaining firearms through straw purchases and trafficking, introduced March 15, 2013
S.1336, a bill to permit States to require proof of citizenship for registering to vote in federal elections, introduced July 17, 2013
S.2170, a bill to increase coal, natural gas, and crude oil exports, to approve the construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline, to expand oil drilling offshore, onshore, in the National Petroleum Reserve–Alaska, and in Indian reservations, to give states the sole power of regulating hydraulic fracturing, to repeal the Renewable Fuel Standard, to prohibit the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from regulating greenhouse gases, to require the EPA to assess how new regulations will affect employment, and to earmark natural resource revenue to paying off the federal government's debt, introduced March 27, 2014

Cruz had a leading role in the October 2013 government shutdown. Cruz gave a 21-hour Senate speech in an effort to hold up a federal budget bill and therefore defund the Affordable Care Act.

Has served on:
Committee on Armed Services
Subcommittee on Emerging Threats and Capabilities
Subcommittee on Readiness and Management Support
Subcommittee on Seapower
Committee on the Judiciary
Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Human Rights
Subcommittee on Oversight, Federal Rights and Agency Activities (Chairman)
Subcommittee on Immigration, Refugees and Border Security
Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation
Subcommittee on Aviation Operations, Safety, and Security
Subcommittee on Science and Space (Chairman)
Committee on Rules and Administration
Special Committee on Aging

Comments on President Obama
In a November 2014 Senate speech, Cruz accused the president of being "openly desirous to destroy the Constitution and this Republic". In the same speech, Cruz invoked the speeches of the ancient Roman senator Cicero against Catiline to denounce Obama's planned executive actions on immigration reform.

Cruz has repeatedly said that the 2015 international nuclear agreement with Iran "will make the Obama administration the world's leading financier of radical Islamic terrorism".

After the death of Associate Justice Antonin Scalia, Cruz expressed his view that the winner of the 2016 U.S. presidential election, rather than President Obama, should appoint a new Justice.
In June 2016, Cruz blamed the Obama administration for the 2016 Orlando nightclub shooting, reasoning that it did not track the perpetrator Omar Mateen properly while he was on the terrorist watch list.
Following the terrorist attack on Nice, France, Cruz said in a statement that the country was at risk as a result of the Obama administration having a "willful blindness" in regards to radical Islamists.
With the passing of Fidel Castro in November, Cruz charged Obama with celebrating and lionizing Castro in public statements he made addressing the death.
On December 28, after Secretary of State John Kerry gave a speech defending the U.S.'s decision to allow a U.N. resolution to pass, which condemned Israeli settlements "on land meant to be part of a future Palestinian state", Cruz denounced the speech as "disgraceful", and that history would preserve both Obama and Kerry as "relentless enemies of Israel". Cruz also accused the Obama administration of having a "radical anti-Israel agenda".

He is now 47 years old.

And some FAKE Conservatives here on FR want to insult this defender of Freedom!

What part is fake? That the advisor said it was unlikely he would lose but there is a possibility? Or that there is zero possiblity that Cruz loses? If so why does Cruz want Trump to come to Texas to rally for him?

It’s the massive corruption in precincts controlled by Demonicrats that shoud have been the target of RICO criminal investigations over the past two years.

I think it’s a ploy that both Trump and Cruz are in on. Suggest he may lose. Trump then parachutes in for a rally ‘out of fear’ that Cruz may lose. Democrats pour money in as well as resources. This is money that could be spent elsewhere. So Cruz wins by less than expected thereby giving the rats bragging rights. He will win. Do you really think the WHOLE state of Texas will support someone who considers Kapernick a hero? The thought of Cruz losing is not worth the time to think about it but anything is possible. Let the Rats think just that.

I’ll bet Trump volunteered to go to TX to help Cruz. Trump loves rallies, and TX is a big state! It also helps Trump!

If so why does Cruz want Trump to come to Texas to rally for him?

Because the Left is near-orgasmic at the prospect of taking any GOP state-wide seat from Texas. Trump won TX by 9%. Cruz is still polling at +4%, but was +9% earlier this year.

In Texas, with about 9m votes in 2016, that 5% swing is about 450,000 votes.

Anything that gives the Dems possible national traction in a solid Right-wing state should be opposed.

IF this is true (and I kind of doubt it), President Trump needs to haul Mulvaney’s ass into the Oval Office and tell him to keep his F-ing yap shut ... even better, THEN, bring Mulvaney with him when Trump conducts the Mother-of-all rallies in Texas on behalf of Trump and have Mulvaney either apologize or deny, depending upon what’s appropriate ... Again, IF this shite is true, Trump needs to make an example out of Mulvaney and put and end of this crap ...

Cruz has a Nike problem.

You know how many people swore that they would never again - at no point in the future, no matter how far along - do business with Nike?

I’d wager there are a lot of people who feel that way about Cruz after he used a platform given to him at Trump’s nominating convention to tell people to go vote for Hillary Clinton.

And that ain’t the only deal-breaker from that campaign. Naming Fiorina as his VP choice AFTER he had already lost the race was a literally insane move.

Hopefully the Texas GOP can get its act together to replace this guy in the next cycle.

Someone who went to a CLOSED DOOR GOP donors’ meeting taped Mulvaney who probably assumed that closed door meant confidential ... and whoever that coward is gave the tape to the NYT.

But what he spoke was truth. Cruz just isn’t likable, no matter how conservative he is. Whether that causes him to lose is another question. I would hope that Texans would overlook any personality defects in favor of policy positions, votes to support the POTUS, to keep a R majority in the Senate.

Wow, if that’s not the pot calling the kettle black. Trump is not the most likeable person either. I’m a big Trump supporter because of most everything he’s done as President, but I have to admit he is one of the most brash, obnoxious, and in your face politicians I’ve ever seen.
