September 10 is the statistical peak of the Atlantic Tropical Storm season, and the conga line of storms dancing across the Atlantic is not disappointing historical data. The Governors of NC and SC have declared states of emergency for a potential major hurricane landfall, while Hurricane Florence is slowly creeping westward. Florence is predicted to increase forward motion and intensity Monday. Hurricanes Hazel (1954) and Hugo (1989) are two notorious major hurricanes to make landfall in NC and SC, respectively. North Carolina has prior experience with "F" named hurricanes. Hurricanes Fran (1996) and Floyd (1999) caused widespread flooding and damage in the Tar Heel state.
The NHC has been issuing Public Advisories for Florence since August 30. The five day "Cone of Uncertainty" archive progression since Aug. 30 may be found here.
Isaac is a small storm. Isaac is predicted to steadily strengthen during the next few days as the storm remains over warm waters and in a low wind shear environment in the short term. The NHC predicts Isaac will reach hurricane status within 2 days.
Helene is expected to reach hurricane status in the short term. However, Helene is not anticipated to threaten U.S. interests. The forecast track turns north into the mid-Atlantic.

It’s been rainy and wet for several days in Md, which is causing the higher water levels. It’s only going to flood more with this storm.

Projections now show Florence turning toward East Tennessee instead of Virginia. At the same time, E TN sodomites will be ‘celebrating’ their 1st Annual ‘Tri-Pride Festival & Parade. Queers will be skipping thru the streets of Johnson City while their Carolina neighbors lose their homes, their businesses, and in some cases; their very lives. Bad optics, queers...real bad optics.
I checked my elevation relative to the river. I am about 70ft higher than it.
I don’t want to make reservations anywhere— I have a feeling I could not get them anyway. Also don’t want to take away from those under mandatory evacuation orders.

The birds are enduring creatures. My hummingbirds usually leave for their winter digs in Costa Rica by August 15. They are still here right now. I told my Grands...they know something we don’t know! They heard it on the grapevine!

Oh...that is quite different...I would try to rescue something like that myself.
Oh great, I am a mile from the beach in Wilmington NC and am leaving for Annapolis tonight. Looks like I cannot win for losing on this storm. *sigh*

FEMA can only do their jobs when the Governors cooperate. Katrina was a disaster because of the politicians in Louisiana, not because of GWB.

I've lived through 24 inches of rain in 24 hours in hill country. We had mudslides, washouts, lost bridges, culverts missing and houses sliding down hills. Every basement had water in it, some basements caved in.
I can't imagine 3 to 4 feet of rain.
Governor sign-off or not, my thought is that FEMA will know not to stage vehicles in an area deemed to be in danger of catastrophic weather. If that is the case (maybe giving them too much credit here), I would think that bodes well for the Raleigh area.

If it helps, the pics are from the bottom of the hill in the downtown historic area. If you are familiar with Elliott City, Md. they will probably take another beating too.
