Yes, regular maintenance can be an issue, but that pales in comparison to damage control needs in a combat environment.
Basically, most of these minimally staffed ships are bottom decorations if hit even once by modern munitions, simply because there isn’t anyone to deal with minor or major hull integrity issues.
