Jim Carrey delivered a succinct one-minute lecture on Canadian health care to American audiences on Real Time With Bill Maher on Friday night.
Fed up with what he perceives as inaccurate descriptions of the Canadian health-care system, Carrey made it clear that he thinks the country's medical care is in great shape and didn't mince words in his brief monologue.
"I grew up in Canada, OK? We have socialized medicine," said a Nike-wearing Carrey to Maher's audience. "I'm here to tell you this bulls**t line you get on all of the political shows from people is that it's a failure. 'The system is a failure in Canada.' It is not a failure in Canada."
He then went on to talk about his own personal experiences.
"I never waited for anything in my life," he continued. "I chose my own doctors, my mother never paid for a prescription, it was fantastic. And I just got back from Vancouver and I keep hearing this [comment]: 'Canadians are so nice, Canadians are so nice.' They can be nice because they have health care..."
At this point the audience erupted in applause, even though Carrey wasn't done yet...

Point number two... If Carrey's mother didn't pay for prescriptions then she was either on social assistance, or she had 'HEALTH INSURANCE' through her work place or paid for it herself.
Canada doesn't offer free prescriptions, free eye care or free dental. You pay for it. The typical health insurance plan cost roughly $1,500 to $2,500 per year and when you do obtain services, there is typically a co-pay amount of 20% of the cost for whatever procedure you are receiving.
If you're lucky you're employer will offer you a health care plan, and you will pay a portion of the cost. If you're on social assistance then it's all covered... The working poor go without.
Mr. Carrey paints a rosy picture of Canada's healthcare system for his American audience... While many Canadians who actually still liver in this country sit back and laugh at his pandering.
Anyone who wants socialized medicine should follow me or another disabled veteran to their V.A. appointments.
Maybe Jim ought to talk with doctors and nurses who showed their butts at the border to get better jobs in the United States and patients who got fed up with being on waiting lists (and also knew of people who died while still being on them) and went to the U.S. to get far more timely care. I get easily fed up hearing wealthy Canadian showbiz types like Carrey who lecture to us peons in both countries in this manner.
A Canadian friend of ours had a botched ACL surgery in Canada. He had to wait a year to get it fixed. But, the procedure was “free.”
In the meantime he came to the USA for therapy on the knee while he waited.
Not the only socialized medicine horror story.
I waited just under two years for my knee replacement, and another year for the second one.
You get to choose your doctor.....well, yes, you do. But there are so few doctors around, if you find one taking patients, you choose that one. Because it’s the only one. So your actual option when looking for a doctor is take him or leave him.
It reminds me of when the kids were young and I gave them two choices for dinner. Take it or leave it.
Here Jim, why don’t you explain to people about why Lester Pearson, Tom Kent, and Pierre Elliot Trudeau marched in on health care and other aspects of social policy that was the domain of the provinces until the mid to late 1960s? No wonder why this country has been in a financial mess ever since, not to mention the lousy relationships between the provinces and federal government.

And speaking of K C Irving, when Pierre Trudeau’s government introduced capital gains taxes in about 1972, the Irving family relocated their business and assets to the Cayman Islands in order to get away from the taxes.

It’s easy for him to be so pro-socialized medicine, he has the money to go elsewhere if he doesn’t get what he needs from the government.
And they haven’t paid any since... But they sure do benefit... Receiving tens of millions from the provincial government for various ventures and over 30... Make that 40 billion for a federal government ship building contract. And they built all the current frigates as well... They have received tens of billions in taxpayer money and they haven’t paid a cent towards taxes since then. Too funny.
But hey, as they always say... They employ lots of people in mid to minimum wage jobs, and under pay professionals to the point where they import them from foreign countries to get their oil and lumber to foreign markets. Thank god for the Irving’s... What would Atlantic Canada and the eastern United States do without them?
Well known fact... They support the Liberal party more than the Conservative party. Funny how the super rich are always so liberal and prefer socialism and taxes... Because they never pay any.
Well, I personally know one person who would disagree with Jim. She was diagnosed with a heart problem, sent from North Bay to Sudbury to confirm, which they couldn’t quite do, so she was referred to Toronto, 325 miles away and 11 weeks later. They confirmed she need triple bypass surgery and scheduled it...for 19 months later. She died 4 months after the Toronto visit. Someone needs to ask Carrey why Seattle performs 57,000 procedures a year on Canadian citizens if its health program is such a success.

He’s as clueless as that guy in the Truman Show.
He doesn’t just play a stupid tool.
At the very least, he should go back to Canada if their healthcare system is so damn terrific.
Maybe he’s waiting for a doctor?
