Leo III’s 1300-Year-Old Lesson: Understand Islam to Defeat Jihad

Tuesday (September 11, 2018) marks the 17th anniversary of the cataclysmic jihad terror attacks in the United States on September 11, 2001. Thirteen centuries ago, on August 15, 718, under the wise and stalwart leadership of Byzantium’s Leo III, the Arab Muslim jihad siege of Constantinople was broken, and the invaders—and Islamdom—suffered an ignominious defeat. These events are described with unique lucidity and unbowdlerized knowledge of their animating Islamic and Christian motivations in Raymond Ibrahim’s compelling new book, Sword and Scimitar. Would that today’s U.S. and other “Western” leaders reconsider their largely feckless policies against the resurgent jihad depredations of our era (~34,000 acts of jihad terror since 9/11/2001) and re-examine Leo III’s timeless words and actions.

Leo III’s alleged eighth-century reply letter to the contemporary Muslim Caliph Umar II, who had invited the Byzantine Emperor to renounce Christianity and adopt Islam, was preserved by the eighth- (to tenth-?) century Armenian chronicler, Ghevond. Ibrahim’s Sword and Scimitar re-introduced me to both Leo III’s letter, and the great linguist and Islamologist Arthur Jeffrey’s (d. 1959) annotated 1944 English translation and analysis of Ghevond’s rendering of it, which was succinctly characterized in my 2005 compendium on jihad:

Leo’s reply is an extensive and well-written defense of the major tenets of the Christian religion. In it the Byzantine emperor, who was as zealous in his Christian faith as Umar was in his, refuted Islam on the basis of the Christian Gospel, as well as the basis of the Koran.

Obama lied when he said Jefferson had a koran on his desk and understood islam as a protected religion.

The lie by omission was that Jefferson wanted to understand the enemy:

“There was reason . . . to apprehend that the warfare in which we were engaged with Tripoli [Libya] might be taken up by some others of the Barbary Powers [Algiers, Tunis, Morocco, Turkey, et. al]. A reinforcement therefore was immediately ordered....I very early thought it would be best to effect a peace through the medium of war. The power of making war often prevents it, and in our case would give efficacy to our desire of peace.”

Damn islam.

Play on words... Wall off Islam, with a dam. And keep the Islamics away from our shores. Unfortunately, they're using our Constitutional rights against us to slowly invade us before they again kill us in large numbers. Remember 9/11.

The Roman emperors Constantine IV, who held off a Muslim siege of Constantinople in AD 674-678, and Leo III are heroes of the Christian faith.

good article.

“Leo III’s successful example must be re-affirmed as a living lesson for combating jihad warfare against the willfully blind heirs of Western Civilization, a full thirteen centuries later.”

On September the 11th, 1683, the armies of the Ottoman Empire began their attack on the city of Vienna, Austria. The Battle of Vienna was meant to be the opening assault in a jihad that was intended to lead to the Islamic conquest of Europe and the defeat of Christendom. The battle began after the imperial city of Vienna had been besieged by the armies of the Ottoman Empire for two months. The Christian forces were vastly outnumbered by the Muslim Turks and Tartars who were confident that they would be able to breach the walls of the city with their cannon. They celebrated the opening day of the battle on September the 11th by executing 30,000 Christian captives. The tide of the battle turned on September 12th with the arrival of the army of Polish king, Jan III Sobieski.

The defeat of the Ottoman Turks at Vienna on the 12th of September marked the turning point in the 300-year struggle between the Central European kingdoms and the Ottoman Empire. It was the last attempt of an Islamic state to expand into and dominate Europe by military force. Therefore, historians consider the Battle of Vienna one of the decisive battles of world history.

"Therefore, historians consider the Battle of Vienna one of the decisive battles of world history. "

While modern historians like the miscreants on the Alphabet New Networks(CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC) probably consider it an act of pre-Trump era White Supremacy.

Read about Budapest Hungary in 1541 where the Muslims befriended and then tricked and betrayed the Christians leading to 150 year Muslim control.

To understand Islam is to realize it is incompatible with our Western version of civilization. To our sensibilities it is barbarism, and its followers are undoubtedly its primary victims. It is the MS-13 of religions.

All that is true and has been for centuries. Those who wish to use terror to exert control know the potential for successfully manipulating the wild beast that is Islam into serving their ends.

I took note of President Trumps remarks at the Flight 93 Memorial. In regards to our 200,000 armed forces overseas he appropriately named their primary opponents as radial Islamic terrorists.

However in regards to the attacks of 911 he referred to the enemy as evil and tyrannical and world-wide, but gave them no name. Political correctness? Hardly. That is not how our President rolls. There’s another reason he did not name the entity behind 911...yet.

Think about it

https://tenthamendmentcenter.com/2016/05/24/jefferson-and-the-barbary-pirates/

“It was written in their Koran, that all nations which had not acknowledged the Prophet were sinners, whom it was the right and duty of the faithful to plunder and enslave; and that every mussulman who was slain in this warfare was sure to go to paradise.”[2]

...The pirates were in no mood for negotiation, and they strongly maintained that their religious beliefs obligated them to make war upon non-Muslims.
