SAN FRANCISCO, Sept 12 (Reuters) - St. Louis Federal Reserve Bank President James Bullard on Wednesday credited U.S. President Donald Trump with boosting U.S. economic growth in a way that may prove to be sustainable by lifting productivity.

"I definitely think that the political change had an influence; I think that this is a pro-business administration that wanted to pursue strategies that were focused on economic growth," he told reporters after speaking at CFA Society Chicago, pointing to the reduction in corporate tax rates and improvements in business sentiment under Trump.

Bullard said he currently estimates the economy is capable of sustaining a 2-percent annual growth rate, an estimate economists refer to as the potential growth rate.

"As a policymaker I have to assess how much of that is coming through productivity increases that could be sustained going forward, and if I think that's what's happening, then I would revise up my potential growth rate."

Bullard stuck to his view that the Fed should not raise interest rates any further because there is little danger of an inflation surge....

Great video of Dr. Hassett (Trump Council of Economic Advisors) demolishing the notion that post-2016 economic performance just follows trend set by previous Obama administration.

Very enjoyable viewing for anybody interested in the economy.

No, the ballooning deficit will be the lead story. And as a deficit hawk, I can't say I would disagree.

No, Stormy Daniel’s latest show and tour schedule will probably lead the news, unless Omarosa or Maxine have something interesting to say.

There’s no doubt that he’s right. And while I am fond of pointing out the massive amount of deficit spending this administration and this congress have enabled, there was something else, too that occurred when Trump took office. A huge boost in business confidence that materialized practically overnight, just from not having the business-hostile Dems in charge any more.

In contrast to the Democrats. They’re like spoiled children, living the good life provided by their parents even as they slice the tires on their parents’ cars to prevent them from getting to their jobs to pay for it all.

“Trump has proven to have a genius for economics.”

People mistakenly believe that Trump has a business degree because he attended a business school, Wharton. President Trump’s degree is in economics. BTW, President Reagan also had a degree in economics. That’s a very interesting coincidence.
