President Bill Clinton nominated Ruth Bader Ginsburg to the Supreme Court in June 1993. She was confirmed two months later by a vote of 96 to 3, and not a single senator asked her about her ten years litigating cases for the ACLU, she said in an appearance on Thursday.

“I wish I could wave a magic wand and have it go back to the way it — the way it was,” Ginsburg told a gathering at the George Washington University Law School. […]

“The way it was, was right. The way it is, is wrong,” she said, drawing applause from the audience.

Ginsburg continued: “The atmosphere in ’93 was truly bipartisan. The vote on my confirmation was 96 to 3 — even though I had spent about 10 years of my life litigating cases under the auspices of the ACLU and I was on the ACLU board as one of their general counsels. My White House handlers asked me questions about my ACLU affiliation. They were very nervous about it. And I said, ‘Forget it; just forget it. Nothing you can do would lead me to badmouth the ACLU.’” …

She should get busy criticizing the handling of Scalia’s bizarre death.

The ACLU is NOT about Civil Liberties.

They completely ignore support of the 2nd Amendment.

American Communist Lawyers Union should be their official name.

And speaking of “magic wand waiving,” I’d like to wave a magic wand and have your skinny capo a$$ disappear from the face of the earth!

But Ruthie, it's YOUR side of the isle doing things the wrong way. Clean your own house!

Does Trump have a magic wand for this? He does if he can drain the swamp.

Its because we now rely on the court to be another legislative branch instead of Senators and Reps doing their jobs.

The Republicans move in lockstep. So do the democrats.

She’s trying to be “fair”.Frankly, it looks like the republicans are doing what they all did back in 1993. She was confirmed 96 to 3. Looks like only three were NOT in lockstep with everyone else.

The republicans are the ones being reasonable now, as the Democrats were in ‘93. It is the current democrats that are fighting so vigilantly against a nominee that has an exemplary record. And they are doing it in lockstep.

Stopped clock and all. The ACLU is supporting the NRA's right to free speech in New York State.

Forget it; just forget it. Nothing you can do would lead me to badmouth the ACLU.

Was this before or after the ACLU took up the cause of NAMBLA?

I'm sure most of us here on FR wish we could wave a magic wand and make RBG disappear from SCOTUS.

And she seems to be conveniently forgetting the Robert Bork set-to.

“bipartisan” == “GOP rolls over, Leftists give it to
them Hard.”

Too bad the senile old biddy doesn’t even see the
hypocrisy of her own position. There should be an
age limit on judges.

There was bi-partisanship for her, where is it today!
