US Accuses Russia of altering North Korea sanctions report

The United States accused Russia on Thursday of pressuring an independent panel of U.N. experts to alter a report on sanctions against North Korea that included alleged sanctions violations "implicating Russian actors."

U.S. Ambassador Nikki Haley expressed disappointment in the panel monitoring sanctions against North Korea "for caving to Russian pressure and making changes to what should have been an independent report." She called it "a stain" on the experts' important work.

Haley said the panel should release the original report, which cited "a massive increase in illicit ship-to-ship transfers of petroleum products" for North Korea in violation of U.N. sanctions. It said some products allegedly were off-loaded from Russian ships.

After the initial experts' report was released, Russia and China blocked the U.N. from imposing sanctions on Russia-based entities and vessels sanctioned a week earlier by the U.S. Treasury Department.

I saw a report tonight on NHK about how the Norks were begging the Russians not to send home Nork workers. The Norks don’t have to feed them and they get the semi-hard currency rubles to spend on whatever Lil Kim wants. The Norks were given two years by the UN to repatriate all their overseas workers, in an attempt to reduce their access to hard currency. Good luck with enforcing that.

Constructive Criticism: I don't like seeing this word. Ammunition for the "crazies."

If you study North Korean history from its inception...Russia has been the main player, not China. It is the source and wellspring of North Korea’s nuclear program.

China has more money now. But both China and Russia see it in their interest that the U.S. does not have it easy.

It was years of failed U.S. policy that led to both these countries having this much leverage over the situation.

President Trump has talked to Kim Jong Un of North Korea and he’s talked to Vladimir Putin of Russia.

Lets hope the talk continues...…..
