Privacy-Focused ‘Brave’ Browser Files Complaint Against Google Ad Data Harvesting
Breitbart ^ | 13 Sep 2018 | Nate Church

Bad news for Google and other internet advertisers: Brave is pushing to make farming user data a whole lot harder. Founder Brandon Eich wants to bring the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) to the doorstep of some of the most powerful companies in the world. “There is a massive and systematic data breach at the heart of the behavioral advertising industry. Despite the two-year lead-in period before the GDPR, adtech companies have failed to comply,” Brave’s chief policy officer Johnny Ryan told Reuters.

Eich and Brave are calling out the way that personal data is harvested by various websites and then used to target ads — if the company in question does not simply sell that information off to the highest bidder.

The complaint maintains that these practices “[violate] the GDPR’s requirement for personal data to be processed in a way that ensures they are properly secured, including against unauthorized or unlawful processing and against accidental loss.”

Good for Brave! A "Brave" thing to do, you might say.

Pop-up ads be gone, and private, too.

I’m with you!

I downloaded Brave about a week ago, and I am loving it. I was still on Explorer 11, where every other page had to be “reloaded”, and half the videos were “incompatible” and the other half had to constantly pause, and load, during playback.

I’m staying with Brave.

Been using Brave off and on for about a year. Need to use them all the time. It works great on almost all sites (can’t get it to work with Spectrum TV streaming app.) Thank you, Brandon Eich!

I use Brave on iPhone and Windows. It’s great on Windows and pretty good on the iPhone.

I use Brave on my phone exclusively now. The only thing that would make it better is if it wrapped text, the way Opera does.

Pale Moon has been plagued by security issues. Brave is good and getting better, but I also use the Dolphin browser and Quant search engines. Sometimes I use Searx for search, Duckduckgo is promising, but I find its search results are not satisfactory. Plus it doesn’t hold personal settings
