History curriculum in Texas remembers the Alamo, but could soon forget Hillary Clinton and Helen Keller.

As part of an effort to "streamline" the social studies curriculum in Texas, the State Board of Education voted on Friday to change what students in every grade are required to learn in the classroom. They voted to remove several historical figures, including Hillary Clinton and Helen Keller.

The board also voted to add back into the curriculum a reference to the "heroism" of the defenders of the Alamo, which had been recommended for elimination, as well as Moses' influence on the writing of the founding documents, multiple references to "Judeo-Christian" values and a requirement that students explain how the "Arab rejection of the State of Israel has led to ongoing conflict" in the Middle East.

The vote Friday was preliminary. The board, which is elected to represent geographic areas, will take a final vote on these curriculum changes in November and can make further amendments before then.

I understand eliminating Crooked Hillary, but I can’t see Helen Keller.

History is history.
Removing Clinton is no better than removing Lee.

The American Taliban must be stopped.

Both are irrelevant and not worth even a footnote

Ms Keller had left wing sympathies but, AFAIK, she didn’t have a nasty bone in her body.

She was just another bright, protected, naive girl. And she had some pretty good excuses for that.

Hillary? yes

Hellen Keller? no

I think the story of Hellen Keller should be heard by students.

Until Clinton is doing time, it would be improper to teach about her.

I think the story of Helen Keller should be heard by students.

At the risk of criticizing Keller, she was also an advocate for Marxism under its various guises.

I love Helen Keller jokes (they are STILL a staple of Wall St. humorists) but I like your post. She was a sheltered lady. She picked up a lot of her radical views from Mark Twain and Annie Sullivan’s husband, John Macy. (Annie rejected them!)

A beautiful person in many ways.

‘One woman was blind and deaf.two...’

and, on a rather tasteless note, don’t forget that one could pleasure herself with one hand, while the other required both...

Well, if one category was “the worst woman in US history,” I can see how Hillary might have lost out to Lizzie Borden or Mary Surratt. If the other category was “the best woman in US history,” Helen Keller might have lost to one of several women (even though her life is very admirable, many other women’s are too).

The wife of President Clinton.

Is there much on Jackie O in the textbooks?

What about Pat Nixon?

Betty Ford?

I wasn’t aware of that. I do think she overcame severe adversity, and I think that is an amazing story for kids to hear.

Too many times kids forget that if they are in school achieving, they have it so much better than certain others do.

That Marxism issue would be one to make me want to have someone else be that object lesson.

Communism/Socials, are the great destroyers. Look at our own nation and the impact they have on us. Socialism is alive and well in our nation.

We need to step back and change things.
