U.S. media reports said Friday that President Donald Trump has instructed aides to proceed with tariffs on $200 billion more in Chinese products.

Citing sources familiar with the matter, Bloomberg and Reuters said the president wanted to move forward with the additional duties even though Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin is trying to restart trade talks with Beijing.

The reports sent stocks falling Friday and led to a drop in the Chinese yuan.

The White House did not immediately comment on the reports.

Meanwhile, we are running the worst trade deficit in recorded history, with China, right now.

Even worse than it was last year.

And last year, was the worst ever...

The trade deficit is due in no small part to to fiscal deficit which, by the way, is about to go parabolic. Deficit spending creates artificial demand. Since most of what the stores carry is made in China...

The Congress has the power and authority to keep spending at a level consistent with the legitimate needs of the country. They also have the obligation to adhere to the Constitution.

Reducing the trade deficit must necessarily include reducing our budget deficit as well.

Yes. If we buy less Chinese stuff, then China has less dollars to buy Gov bonds, which means Gov has less money and has to spends less and decrease in size.

Meanwhile US production takes up some of the slack, more jobs, more wealth here.

Bring on the tariffs!

Re; Your comment about the worst trade deficit with China ever.

1. I believe you are correct about that.

2. Possible (partial) explation: US importers stocking up ahead of the Trump Tariffs.

3. Trump, despite appearances, is basically a free trade advocate and is not a fan of tariffs. He is betting the pressure on the Chinese will exceed the pressure on the U.S. and the tariffs will be short term.

4. The risk for Trump is that the Chinese will take the long view and just hang tough. I’m worried about that.

Trump Tells Aides to Proceed With More Tariffs on Chinese Goods (VOA News)

The Chinese has been the worst for I do not even know how many years but they dump so many goods into our country and we need President Trump to start putting tartiffs on these Chicoms. They are still a communist country last time I checked this out.

These goods that the Chicoms send to the U.S.A. are putting decent American patriots out of a job.

It is time that this stops and the Chicoms want to continue to dump their goods into the U.S. without any penalties whatsoever. This is complete Bravo Sierra.

Everybody outside of our country has been dumping their goods into our country and this needs to stop now since it is putting a lot of American Patriot folks out of decent jobs.

The Clintoon Crime Syndicate gave away so much of our Military secrets and the Clintoon Crime Syndicate has gotten away literally with Murder.

The MSM will never write anything against the Chicoms nor the Clintoon Crime Syndicate. Just Amazing!

The game was and is to threaten tariffs with everyone forcing them to come aligned into the United States Universe in parallel and then attack China as a Consortium

Bottom line, we win and they lose more than they afford or we win and they win because it’s fair trade

We are in an argument the Berbers found themselves in when Jefferson sent the biggest and bad assery fleet of ships the world had ever seen and our only point was “Fair Trade”...

Umm...not exactly.

Foreign purchases of Treasuries by China, or lack of purchases, has NO effect on what Uncle Sam spends. Take a look at the publicly available numbers and be convinced.

This is an issue no one wants to grapple with - reigning in deficit spending!

Tariffs are all well and good. But until most of those products are manufactured and distributed here in the USA, massive government deficits (at all levels) will be a major contributor to the trade deficits.

Is there a reason you rarely, if ever, respond to questions from me regarding trade? The times there are responses, others seem to do it for you.

Is it my tag line? You are not equipped to handle challenges? Maybe you aren’t as well versed in these things as you thought?

If you are going to go on and on and on about trade deficits with China, at least be willing to engage others in a discussion and defend/clarify your position.

Just in general. This is probably one of the most important issues we are facing today and it lends itself to some discussion it seems to me.

You have always been a stalwart for jobs returning to the USA and rightly so, in my opinion.

Without a thriving middle class (abundant jobs at reasonable wages), there is no America as we once knew it. Again, in my opinion.

For example, It seems to me that what absolutely has to happen is for the USA to produce what we buy (even when other countries make it) and to make available good jobs for those who want to work.

I know this administration has done well reducing/eliminating choking regulations and cutting taxes - all essential elements. Last week it looks like manufacturing utilization is on the upswing and employment increases are broad based.

There is another issue that is not talked about, but just as job killing, is the hostile and absurd legal environment companies and small businesses have to deal with. It is a nightmare for too many.

Lots of legal landmines out there that make the USA an undesirable place to set up shop. Plenty of small businesses operate on very thin margins and/or have limited capital and are one unfortunate incident away from bankruptcy.

Anyway, thank you for your response.

You’re looking at numbers from the Obama administration, an aberration from the norm.

Now that budgeting is back, revenue plays a yuge factor.

No, I’m looking at budget deficit numbers from August 2018. During the past 12 months I know Russia has significantly scaled down their holding of US debt, and China is moderately less.

This fro Reuters:

U.S. government posts $214 billion deficit in August. WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. government had a $214 billion budget deficit in August, almost double the amount for the same period last year as outlays swelled, according to Treasury Department data released on Thursday.4 days ago

I have no idea why you would want to delude yourself, or other people reading this forum.

But nice try anyway.
