Rhami Zeini, a 16-year-old high school junior, discovered the purse Wednesday in the middle of the street on his walk home from school when he found $10,000

Zeini, who first checked the purse for identification, went to his parents and turned in the purse to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.

“What a great example of doing the right thing even when no one is watching,” the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office tweeted late Friday night.

Deputies were able to track down the owner of the purse and give her the money. The woman gave Zeini $100 as a reward. A spokesperson for the sheriff’s office said the woman had been on a hike and mistakenly left the purse on the roof of her vehicle before driving away.

She had $10;000 in her purse and only gave him $100? Good grief!

What, the cops didn’t seize the money for a couple of high end thermal sights?

This kid sounds like a very decent, admirable one.My guess is that he understands that the only important reward for him is the knowledge that he did the right thing.

As for the woman....all I can say is "carrying $10,000 in cash? Good grief!"

I lost a wallet once that had $65.00 in it-——I gave it all to the guy who found it——it was all of the other stuff in the wallet that I was delighted to get back.

My take on this: She was the “bag lady” on a drug deal which took place on her hiking trail.

agreed. $1000 would be more appropriate.

I agree. $100 in this case was downright cheap and ungrateful.

My Daddy taught me to always TIP at least 20 per cent to anyone who simply delivered my lunch, or drove me somewhere in a cab.

Jeez...

I walk around with $10,000 in cash, 4 or 5 times a week, don’t you? 😁🤣 At first I thought the guy has a Muslim sounding name, and I thought it was just another article, trying to show how good the followers of the ROP are.
The whole thing might be perfectly legitimate, but considering that the BS media, puts out a lot of BS, I am automatically suspicious.

It should never have been announced. That is a green light for some government agency to do a confiscation of money that might have been used in an illegal transaction.

If she rewards the honest finder of her $10,000 with a measly $100, I would guess that she probably often stiffs her waitresses and waiters out of any tip whatsoever.

A common observation by those who work in restaurants is that some of the cheapest customers are those who are wealthy but got their meals comped. They are especially bad at leaving tips. The poor and middle class are often far more generous.

A hundred dollars?! She ought to be ashamed. She lost it all and wouldn’t have any of it if it hadn’t been for that kid’s honesty. Yes, he did what he was supposed to do. But, still, 25% would have been an appropriate reward, imo.
