Then who shot them?
That is the interesting question isnt it?
The Syrian rebels cant shoot missiles from offshore, unless they have rigged some Grads on a fishing boat. But that would strain the meaning of missile.
The suspect list is pretty short.
Turkey
Israel
US
UK
I don’t know if this is true or not but
UPDATE: Russian Ministry of Defense claims to have detected missile launches from French frigate off Syrias coast in the Mediterranean tonight
If true this it opens up a whole new can of worms.
Tass is reporting Russian IL-20 aircraft disappearing over the Mediterranean during an Israeli air attack on Latakia by 4 F-16’s.
Well, yes, the French too.
Israeli planes were blamed at first, but it’s not clear if it was them or the Turks. Oh, and now the French.
In addition, a Russian observation plane is missing. The blame for that right now is Syrian air and missile defense systems, but I’m sure Israel will get blamed for it somehow.
Pentagon spokesman Navy Cmdr. Sean Robertson tells VOA on Syrian claims of engaging missile targets over #Latakia "I can unequivocally say this is not us." #BREAKING @VOANews
In all seriousness though, this is not good. Powder keg meet match. The ghost of John McCain?
Bottom line, whoever it was attacked the forces fighting the sunni jihadis, NOT the sunni jihadis.
Everyone, I’ve been reading some twitter.
A Russian military plane went down in the area.

Okay, there are a few theories as to why. You can find them yourselves. Also, supposedly I heard a Russian report that a French ship fired off some missiles too. Others say the Syrian army accidentally shot down the Russian plane in intercepting incoming Israeli missiles. This is some speculation but a lot seems to be happening today over there.
