TV producer Ryan Murphy called for stricter hate-crime laws during his Emmy acceptance speech Monday night.

Murphy, who won the limited-series directing award for “The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story,” dedicated his award to the LGBTQ community.

Murphy, the writer and executive behind "Pose" and "American Horror Story" added in his speech that "The Assassination of Gianni Versace" was in part about internalized and externalized homophobia.

“One of out of every four LGBTQ people in this country will be the victim of a hate crime," he said, before naming some of the victims of spree killer Andrew Cunanan, who killed Versace in 1997.

"We dedicate this award to them, to awareness, to stricter hate crime laws, and mostly, this is for the memory of Jeff and David and Gianni and for all of those taken too soon. Thank you very much.”

“One of out of every four LGBTQ people in this country will be the victim of a hate crime," he said, before naming some of the victims of spree killer Andrew Cunanan, who killed Versace in 1997.

Andrew Cunanan was a gay man who preyed on and murdered older gay men.

Does Ryan Murphy want to go after gays who kill other gays and charge them with hate crimes?

Would that include homosexual child molesters and HIV transmitters, Ryan?

I’m all in favor of hate speech laws now.

Let’s start with the Emmy’s and this guy.

No, all of them will be victimized by a society that allows them to indulge in their self-destructive behaviors.

Is that the round-headed guy that killed the Star Wars franchise for good?

Something that has caught my curious about Hollywood’s support for homosexuals: if they are all for it, why the hypocritical reaction to Kevin Spacey?

https://ucr.fbi.gov/hate-crime/2016/topic-pages/victims

Roughly 8000 victims of hate crimes in 2016 according to the FBI, and 18.4% of those due to sexual orientation or gender identity (doesn’t say which kinds). That implies less than 1500 LGBQ++ hate crimes a year, which could be extrapolated to roughly 60,000 over a 40-year adult lifetime. If 5% of the country identifies in this category, that works out to be roughly 0.4%, considerably lower than 25%. Must be a rounding error.

Elitists can’t envision oppressive laws being turned against them...until it happens. Then they’ll weep and wail all the way to the gulag. They are incapable of extrapolating anything from history.

Every violent crime is a hate crime.

End the special status nonsense.

How do we even know why Versace was killed? Maybe the guy hated Italians? Or was a proponent of sweat pants only? I’m sorry, all hate crimes legislation is 100% wrong.

One murder isn’t better or worse than another. If we start legislating against what a person is thinking, that’s the beginning of the end for real.

Even the West Wing got that one right.

Yeah, it’s a really bizarre invocation considering what the film is actually about.

The real reason as to why Versace was killed: he rejected the advances of his killer who became angry and killed him.
