Global carbon prices too low to combat climate change - OECD
CNBC ^ | September 18, 2018 | by Reuters

LONDON - Carbon prices in major advanced economies are too low to cut greenhouse gas emissions and stave off the worst effects of climate change, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) said on Tuesday.

Carbon pricing, via taxes or emissions trading schemes, is used by many governments to make energy consumers pay for the costs of pollution, and to spur investment in low-carbon technology.

The OECD examined carbon pricing between 2012, 2015 and 2018 in 42 OECD and G20 economies, which represent around 80 percent of global carbon emissions.

It found the average pricing level across the countries in 2018 was 76.5 percent lower than the benchmark 30 euros ($35) a tonne it said is needed.

The pricing gap had narrowed, from 79.5 percent in 2015, but "carbon prices need to increase considerably more quickly than they have done in recent years in order to ensure a cost-effective low-carbon transition."

Hard to control pricing for a nonexistent product. Maybe they can form a cartel and reduce production to tilt the axis of supply and demand?

Effing climate grifters.

These carbon-nuts are a barel of laughs. How pathetic that their ability to think critically has devolved to that of a single cell organism.

Carbon prices in major advanced economies are too low to cut greenhouse gas emissions and stave off the worst effects of climate change to line the pockets of globalist billionaires and starve the unwashed peasants into extinction

Fixed it.

The whole scam is to increase taxes. Nothing else.

CO2 levels don't drive temperature, they are a lagging indicator by about 85 years.

They are NOT predictive, they FOLLOW temp changes.

So, mankind is incapable of "changing" the climate.

(Note: seeding a localized rainfall is NOT "changing the climate".)

Speaking of carbon, oil, Venezuela, socialism and ruined economies:

According to Google's blurb if you search Venezuela:

Venezuela is one of the world's largest exporters of oil and has the world's largest proven oil reserves at an estimated 296.5 billion barrels (20% of global reserves) as of 2012.

And the the wicki link produces this graph:

That’s like stating that a car has 1000HP, but omitting that it lacks a transmission and wheels.

Same Source: "Venezuela Oil economy The economy of Venezuela is largely based on the petroleum sector and manufacturing. Revenue from petroleum exports accounts for more than 50% of the country's GDP and roughly 95% of total exports. Venezuela is the sixth largest member of OPEC by oil production."

But of course, that has all crashed now. Same thing our socialist democrats want to do to America.

In Alberta Canada. Coal: $45/ton.
Carbon tax on that coal: $52/ton.

(As of 2 months ago when I was pricing it out.)

Greenhouse Theory excludes itself as a source of warming.

"If there is no hot spot then an increased greenhouse effect is not the cause of global warming. So we know for sure that carbon emissions are not a significant cause of the global warming."

if only the public knew where the carbonazis plan to take the price:

30 March 2017: National Post Canada: Secret briefing says up to $300-per-tonne federal carbon tax by 2050 required to meet climate targets
Environment Canada told minister McKenna early in her mandate that a price on carbon would have to go as high as $300-per-tonne in 2050, a secret document shows
by Marie-Danielle Smith
The document obtained by the National Post, signed off on by the department’s deputy minister, outlined carbon pricing options for the nascent Liberal government in November 2015. The Conservative party obtained the document with an access-to-information request.

To achieve 30-per-cent reductions from 2005 emissions levels by 2030 — the target set by Stephen Harper’s Conservative government and maintained by the Trudeau Liberals — a price of $100 per tonne would need to be in place by 2020.
Based on external modelling, the price would then have to go up to between $200 and $300 per tonne by 2050, government experts suggested.

Any delays in implementation, the briefing note says, “significantly increase required price.” The seven pages immediately following those numbers are redacted...

The Liberals ended up promising only a more modest version of the carbon tax, announcing last October that a national floor price of $10/tonne — paid by private-sector emitters — would be established starting in 2018, rising to $50 per tonne in 2022...
The Canadian Taxpayers Federation claims average households could see a cost of up to $2,500 per family with a $50-per-tonne price, while estimates from think-tanks and academics put the number closer to $1,500.
