Liberal celebrities have been leading the Resistance ever since President Trump’s shock victory over Hollywood darling Hillary Clinton, and now superstars are going all-in on the upcoming midterm elections – but whether or not they can make a difference remains to be seen.
Since Trump took office, a gaggle of celebrities have become increasingly involved in politics. Chelsea Handler left her struggling Netflix show to focus on activism, actress Cynthia Nixon unsuccessfully challenged New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Meryl Streep attacked Trump during a Golden Globes acceptance speech, Robert De Niro said he would like to punch the president and Madonna proclaimed she’s thought about blowing up the White House.
Former first lady Michelle Obama has enlisted Tom Hanks, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Janelle Monae, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill for her “When We All Vote” initiative. George Clooney, Jimmy Kimmel, Cher, Alec Baldwin, Chrissy Teigen, Debra Messing and Alyssa Milano are among the most outspoken critics of Trump and many more are expected to jump on the bandwagon heading into the midterms.
Celebrities can clearly rack up cash and notoriety for a candidate, but Hod ultimately doesn’t think endorsements make much of a difference.
“If they did, Hillary Clinton would have won in 2016 by a landslide,” Hod said, pointing to a study he conducted in 2016 that showed celebrities favored Clinton over Trump “by a country mile.”

Even the hgtv crowd is getting in on it. One of the twin brothers from some house remodeling show has been on in NV pushing either question 3, elec dereg, or question 6 which mandates NV have 50% renewable by 2030. I don’t recall which one since I ignore them for the most part. Both would be put in the state constitution if passed. Uh, “NO!” on both.
Drugs, sex, decadence, mental illness, narcissism, infidelity, exhibitionism, shallowness, duplicity and ignorance. That’s what celebrities put me in mind of.

It’s all very Cali. Cruella DeVille ran for president, won, is serving puppy soup at the White House and has begun measuring for her Dalmation pelt drapes and spotted owl wall art. It is up to a scrappy band of hot messes to save the day, making themselves look like buffoons in the process.
There may be an issue with all the racist dog-whistle messaging on the Democratic side, but hey, what could possibly go wrong...
These “celebrities” produce nothing that we need. In a more sensible society, they would get vocational training for the real jobs they cannot perform now. And we know they cannot be trusted because they promise to leave the country if a Republican gets elected. So far the only one one I know who has left is Madonna; she is currently in Portugal.
They are narcissists and self important. They actually have very little sway.
