Taxpayers potentially owe almost $610 million to local government employees in Nevadas two most populous counties for their unused paid time off, financial reports show.
That liability grew 26 percent from 2007 to 2017, and it doesnt represent compensation that will be paid exclusively for rest, relaxation, illness or personal time. Many of Nevadas public employees can stockpile their sick and vacation hours and cash them out at retirement. Some of those payouts exceed $100,000.

Ridiculous! Most private companies limit the amount of rollover each year. It’s use it or lose it.
Corrupt / incompetent local Government in bed with Unions no doubt. Joke.
Does it rally matter if you pay it now or pay it then.
It is a mater of proper budgeting.
It does matter. And yes it is budgeting. And the limits on rollovers ensure they don’t get out of hand.
SC state government would only let so much build up.
Where I am, no rollover. Use it within the year.
I worked for a private company - largest utility in AK - when I left, I got paid enough for my unused vacation (after taxes) to pay off my home.
Yeah, limiting rollover is a thing. Even the military limits leave to no more than 90 days (at least when I was AD)
Or pay it out at the end of the year. Don’t stockpile it and create tons of debt.
Yes it matters when they pay it. Someone just starting out at a job makes 25 an hour, by the time they retire theyre making 60. Its all bs anyway. They take their hours off the bosses just never mark it
I was able to cash out over 1500 hours of leave when I retired from the State of Alaska. The state put a limit on how much leave you can have on your books not too long after I retired. And I only had to work 6 years and 11 months to get a 20 year retirement. Pretty sweet gig.
when I came back for my 2nd life, I'm definitely going to be a flunky for the govt...
This is simply theft by government. The politicians who made this happen should be arrested, tried and convicted of theft. They should also be held financially responsible.
