I don't see the downside to him seeming to bend over backwards (as far as a man his age can do) until 10:00 AM on Monday. Ford can still teleconference in at any time before 10:00 Monday with minimal time to set things up. I suspect she is uncoachable as a witness and her movers don't want her to face a good lawyer's questioning under oath.
Grassley can't change the dates of the vote without a week's notice unless the minority agrees, and not only haven't they agreed, they probably aren't even in town now.
Grassley has scheduled the committee vote on Kavanagh for 10:00 AM Monday.

Neil Gorsuch was sworn in April 8, 2017.
Justices are sworn in mid term quite often. The court can reset and rehear for reargument cases that were tied prior to a new justice taking office.
They have confirmed a record number of Judges and voted for the Tax Cuts. This alone is more than any recent Congress has done in years.
I understand that tactic. My point is that had Republicans taken a tougher stance from the beginning, we would not be in this predicament.
Still, history shows that (in DC) trying to finesse your way around tough situations never works. It simply doesn’t. You may have noticed that the left has no standards, plays by no rules, and fights dirty at every turn. Pretty tough to negotiate with people who don’t act in good faith.
I hope I’m wrong. But my guess is that appeasing the same people who oppose us, including the RINOs, produces failure.
We’ll know for sure in a few days.
I say: It is PAST time to hold the Kavanaugh vote, and discard DemocRAT distractions. She missed deadline after deadline. And look at her supporters! Cory Spartacus said he was a groper, didn’t he? We know Blumenthal lied about his “war” record and Feinstein kept a ChiCom spy on staff for 20 years and then covered it up with the help of Comey’s FBI. Kamala and Hironi are certifiably insane.
