Yanqui come home'? "Everybody in Venezuela wants it to happen."
American Thinker ^ | 09/27/2018 | Silvio Canto Jr.

Over the weekend, I spoke with a Venezuelan living in Virginia.  He was in the Dallas area at a religious retreat.

So I asked him the same question I've asked many others: "What about a U.S. intervention to remove Maduro?"

His answer is the same as I've heard from others: "Everybody in Venezuela wants it to happen."

To be fair, I have not done a scientific survey, and I am speaking with anti-Maduro exiles living in the U.S.  At the same time, Maduro is not that popular down there.  I wouldn't be surprised if many Venezuelans living in the country agree with an intervention, too.

Jorge Castañeda, the Mexican writer, looked at the issue this week.  He wrote:

Recently, Luis Almagro, the secretary general of the Organization of American States, or O.A.S., made a stunning statement at a rally on the border between Colombia and Venezuela, warning that no option was off the table in Venezuela, and in particular, that a "military intervention" to "overthrow" its government, could not be discarded. Some observers interpreted this as meaning that an invasion of Venezuela by other countries was now on the agenda.

Others, more intelligently, surmised that Mr. Almagro was referring to a domestic involvement by the Venezuelan armed forces: in short, a military coup d'état.

I don't really know what he meant, either, but his concerns are completely real.

This is no longer a domestic crisis.

There are countless Venezuelans walking into Colombia and Brazil. They are naturally putting pressure on social services and creating a backlash from the locals. The number is over 2 million, according to Castañeda.

You know what Democrats and the MSM will do if Trump intervenes in Venezuela. Venezuela is of course a paradise, and everyone there is happy. It’s all about stealing oil, appeasing Israel, or empire building. America is always evil when a Republican in president.

So a bunch of Marine privates, corporals, sergeants and lieutenants are about to win medals of honor and navy crosses?

It’s like concentration camp prisoners praying for the bombs to rain down that would kill their captors, their own lives at that point not even an issue.

Sorry, we don't do those types of jobs any more. I can recommend you "Jean-Claude Juncker Handyman Services" or maybe "Xi Jinping Plumbing and Heating" for all of your maintenance needs. :)

If Venezuela is so bad - take out Maduro yourselves.

Part of the reason so many Latin countries are failed states - caudillo culture expects the big man to run the show and take care of problems, leaving the rest of us free to complain.

Self-Responsibility is a very liberating thing.

These exiles should have fought for their country instead of whining about the US doing it for them. They’ve been doing this for almost 20 years now.

The same goes for Cuban exiles. They took the easy way out. Castro conquered Cuba with 100 men in a boat called Granma.

And “caudillo” and “alcalde” each has its roots in “caliph”. A product of the Muslim conquest of Hispania .

They can remove him themselves. They can ask their neighbors for help.

Not one dime or one American life at risk for these people who have fouled their own nest with their greed.

I feel for the honest people who were dragged along by those who voted for socialism. As they say, you can't con an honest man.

The socialist says: "We're going to raise taxes, nationalize industries, etc."

What it means? "All rights exist at the whim of the state." Thus the world they suffer through. If there are no property rights, there's no prosperity.

Property rights are the canary in the mine.

I don't think they've figured it out. Give them awhile.

I have some friends from Venezuela who left when Chavez came into power. They saw what was coming and got the hell out of there. They became naturalized American citizens and have no desire to ever go back.

I agree. Our military has been in near constant combat for seventeen years. We don’t have any reason to be in Venezuela. if we were to put troops into the country there would be a flood of Venezuelans pouring out of the place with one thought in mind-to come here, all claiming refugee status. Screw them. You’re right. They need to fix their own country.
