White House Tells F.B.I. to Interview Anyone Necessary for Kavanaugh Inquiry

WASHINGTON — The White House has authorized the F.B.I. to expand its abbreviated investigation into sexual misconduct allegations against Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh by interviewing anyone it deems necessary as long the review is finished by the end of the week, two people briefed on the matter said on Monday.

The new directive came in the past 24 hours after a backlash from Democrats, who criticized the White House for limiting the scope of the bureau’s investigation into President Trump’s nominee for the Supreme Court. The F.B.I. has already completed interviews with the four witnesses its agents were originally asked to talk to, the people said.

They know it’s a dead-end. That’s why they are trying to change the narrative to Kavanaugh’s drinking and his temperament during his testimony.

I can just imagine Feinstein saying, "You're asking me questions? Do you know who I am??"

I could have sworn I heard Trump say that the FBI should go along with what the senators want as they are running the show there. I did not recall hearing the senate asking for inquiries into other things. IMO this article is a tad over expressive i.e. the Times is trying to gin up a long drawn out witch hunt. In fact, the president said he did not wish to see a witch hunt.

“We need to talk to six Sherpas in the Himalayas who may have second-hand knowledge of Kavanaugh’s drinking. We’ll see you sometime next June.”

WTF is Trump doing giving the OK to expand this investigation?! Now this will NEVER end. The Repubs have
NO strategy and are getting rolled every step of the way. It is becoming clear that they are abandoning Kav rather than playing hardball and viciously ENDING THIS CHARADE!. Rachel Mitchell’s report cited numerous devastating facts to Ford’s case. NONE OF THEM WERE BROUGHT UP DURING THE HEARING! How can that happen unless they are throwing the case?

President Trump has been very clear that this investigation belongs to the FBI and the Senators. He did not put conditions on who they could interview, as that would be the Executive branch unduly interfering with a Legislative Branch function.

The Slimes knows this full well but they are trying to make it look like the investigation is being run from the White House, which will then give the Dems cover to say it was not thorough enough to get the whole picture and therefore, it needs to continue until THEY deem it finished, which of course will be when they find that girl on the playground from kindergarten who claims Brett Kavanaugh cut her off in line for the swingset, thereby establishing his lifelong pattern of disrespecting and intimidating women!! (And they will need his mother to produce his Thermos from said timeframe to verify exactly what was in it, since several unnamed sources from the class indicated they possibly smelled some kind of “fruit punch” on his breath at recess on more than one occasion!)

WTF is Trump doing giving the OK to expand this investigation?! You misunderstand. All the President said is that he would not interfere with the scope of the investigation (an excellent move). Additionally, although being conducted by the FBI the timeframe is fully in control of the Senate and the one-week limitation voted by the Judiciary Committee has not changed.

When McConnell knows he has the votes, he'll call the vote any time after this Thursday.

The democrats now want the FBI to interview 24 people involved with the other fake accusations.

I don’t think 24 people are willing to get hit with a perjury rap so I don’t see that going anywhere.

How many Agents are going to put much effort in this after they read the Letter sent from the Sex Prosecutor that questioned Ford?

All the questioning is based on a False Premise as stated by a Prosecutor...

WTF?

Lie. I listened to Trump’s press conference. He said the Senate controlled the investigation.

The first question the FBI agents should ask everyone is.....are willing to face a perjury charge to help DiFi?

Mueller SC, part two, is coming up. This is the first step to a full-blown expansion of the FBI’s involvement. Before long, we’ll see requests for a second SC, and Republicans will acquiesce, claiming a week is not enough. Please convince me I’m incorrect.

Agreed. This is all about maneuvering Flake, Murkowski and Collins into a position where it becomes very difficult to say no.

“You wanted to go the extra mile-and-a-half, we went the extra mile-and-a-half. The guy has come up clean seven times in FBI investigations. What else do you want?”

That might even swing Manchin and Heitkamp if they care at all about remaining in the Senate.

“All the President said is that he would not interfere with the scope of the investigation (an excellent move).”

I can’t find his comments but if I remember correctly he was saying there are no limitations on the investigation and FBI could basically do what it wanted. It sounded pretty open ended and there are reports that the RATS have a list of 24 additional people they want interviewed. This is an excellent move only if you want this investigation to go on forever and the nomination to die a slow death.

This may be true but it doesn't go to my point. The Judicial Committee voted to allow the FBI one week to conduct any supplemental investigation. McConnell can hold them to that assuming, of course, he has enough to call the vote. This is the Senate's business and -- supposedly -- McConnell and the Republicans control the Senate where the Democrat/Left is a minority.

Understanding all of this, it's really up to the Republican senators to come together, agree to end the investigation as voted by the Judiciary Committee, and vote to confirm ... in which case the Democrats cannot do a damn thing about it (except lose a few seats in states where Democrat/Left senators who vote no would reduce their chances of being re-elected by a PO'd red-state voter base (e.g., Indiana; Montana).
