Voters in most Southern states are expected to back Republican candidates in the upcoming midterms, according to a new NBC News/SurveyMonkey online poll.

The poll found that voters in most Southern states are more likely to support a Republican for Congress than the nation as a whole, with 48 percent of Southerners saying they would vote for a GOP candidate if the midterms were held today compared to 43 percent that would back Democrats.

Forty-nine percent of voters nationally would vote for a Democratic candidate if the elections were held right now while 42 percent would vote for a Republican, according to NBC.

The NBC/SurveyMonkey poll surveyed voters in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.

The only Southern state where voters were more likely to back Democrats was Georgia, where 47 percent of voters said they would vote for a Democrat. Forty-three percent said they are backing Republicans.

The poll found the Georgia gubernatorial race at a tie, with 43 percent saying they would vote for Brian Kemp (R) and 43 percent backing Stacey Abrams (D). Fourteen percent of voters reported they are undecided.

Voters in most Southern states also reported higher approval ratings of the president than the rest of the country. Fifty-two percent of Southern voters said they think the president is doing a good job while forty-nine percent disapprove. Fifty-four percent of voters nationally disapprove of President Trump.

Georgia is again an outlier among Southern states, with 54 percent of Georgians disapproving of Trump.

The NBC News/SurveyMonkey polls were conducted from Sept. 9-24, with a national sample of 8,898 registered voters and a regional sample of 2,655 registered voters.

Regarding Georgia, the Secret Ballot will again prove those polls wrong. Remember election night how they wouldn’t call Georgia for Trump until almost mid-night or something? Wasn’t even close, Trump won by 5%, yet they were sure Hillary was going to take Georgia.

It must be the legacy of GA Jimmuh Carter, who won his state in 1980.

I live in Georgia and neither myself nor anyone in my family has participated in a poll in over a year. We just hang up even if they are Republican pollsters. The only way Trump is under water in this state is if most of my fellow conservatives are not answering the phone either.

The only way the Democrat wins the Governors seat is if every conservative and libertarian in the state goes into a coma before the election.

As always, the polls mean nothing. They are biased, and fail to reflect voter motivation. The Kavanaugh circus is galvanizing conservative voters. They can see in real terms the consequences of letting the Democrats retake Congress. GOTV is the real battle. I’m looking forward to more weeping of gnashing of Democrat teeth on election night.

I tend to agree with you-from afar. However, Demwits pumping in TON$$ of $$. They seem to have focused on Georgia Governor’s race as they did that little twerp Ossoff.

I work right next to my land line.

Have had at least three Poll calls. One a person and the other two recorded with hit the number responses. One just last night.

Gave truthful answers in all three - straight Republican and approve of what President Trump is doing.

Don’t forget, many of those “Democrats” they sampled are mainline Dems who are horrified at what their party has become. They don’t want to change to the party of Weakling Pansies Jeff Flake-wannabes, but they love and admire Strength and Courage, which is embodied in Donald J. Trump.

It’s an NBC poll, means it is a lot worse from Dems than the poll says.
