Graham applauds Kanye's idea for a Trump-Kaepernick summit

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) says he thinks Kanye West’s plan to bring Colin Kaepernick to the White House to meet with President Trump would be a “great thing” amid the chasm between the president and the former NFL player on national anthem protests.

“Anything to bring the country together. I want to watch football without feeling guilty about it,” Graham told TMZ on Monday when asked about the pro-Trump rapper's suggestion.

“I believe in speaking your mind and having your say. Respect the flag,” he continued. "I want to work on sentencing reform, prison reform. A lot of people in jail for a long period of time. African-American males, Hispanic males, particularly. Three strikes and you're out has been pretty hard.”

Kaepernick was the first NFL player to protest racial inequality and police brutality by taking a knee during the national anthem before games.

“So, might be something we can all work on that would bring us together,” Graham said.

His remarks come a day after West told “TMZ Live’s” Harvey Levin in an interview that he has “been calling Colin” to make a meeting happen with Trump.

The former San Francisco 49er and other football players who kneel in protest during "The Star-Spangled Banner" are a frequent subject of criticism for Trump and his supporters. Last year, Trump said team owners should "get that son of a bitch off the field" when they see kneeling players, calling for the protesters to be fired.

The NFL sought to end the controversy over national anthem protests by imposing a policy earlier this year that would prevent players from kneeling during it, but the policy was later placed on hold after drawing a wave of complaints from players and fans.

I'm really not in favor of raising the profile of celebrities to negotiator status.

It’s a nice sentiment, unity, but I don’t want to be “together” with these people. Anyone who supports kneeling in protest of the National Anthem is a slime. I want them to change, leave, or quietly die. I’m rapidly reaching the same state of mind regarding anyone who finds these allegations against Judge Kavanaugh to be even remotely believable.

Yeah whatever...How about blacks being held to be responsible? How about blacks look at their own racial BS?

Kanye is doing a fine job on his own. He’s a bit “unstable” for me though.

112 line of duty deaths so far this year.

Meet with the man who wore pig socks?

I hope Trump takes West to the memorial for LE there in DC and tells Kanye on a cold day in Hell.

Forget Graham’s comment and pay attention to how Trump turrned Little Rocket Man around. No one but Trump could have a chance of pulling something like that off, and if he could tamp down the anti-American NFL nonsense a bit, that would be good for the country and would elevate his status as a leader.

What? Why?

The President has no reason to pay any attention at all to Kapernick.

Let alone meet with him.

Agree. No problem paying lip service to this, though. Nothing will come of it. Besides if the Dems even think this is a possibility, they’ll freak - enough reason to hint that this might be a good idea.

Oh Please NO!

What a bad idea!, giving that guy legitimacy and feeding the dying embers of the protest-the-flag fire.

He is just looking for publicity after his hopes of being hired by the NFL (after they hired the other kneeling protestor player) were crushed.

This is bad as the Beer summit that Obama did between the cop and the thug, giving legitimacy to the thug and a backhanded slap to the cop.

ARGGH.

Why do republicans always do this? When you are winning you don’t stop in the middle of the run to shake the hand of the guy trying to catch you. He will rightfully sneer at you, pass you, and then laugh at your foolishness from the winner’s podium.

I have no empathy for a criminal millionaire that thinks that just because he has money he should have special treatment from the police. I have read that 70% of the NFL players have been arrested for, or have committed felonies. Obviously after being arrested they carry a grudge against the police. Why would you support those whinning priviledged spoiled brats?.

HORRIBLE idea .. HORRIBLE !

The optics of POTUS being seen to legitimize the whining seditious lowlife by granting an audience would be absurd.

Burgess Owens was on Lou Dobbs last night. Gurgess said that the NFL owners have no reason to be patriotic to the USA because they are selling NFL games throughout the world and the ‘outside USA’ TV advertising is a big number.

The USA couch potatoes will need to stop watching the NFL on TV in addition to not attending NFL games.

Addictions are difficult to give up, but for the cause, many will have to go cold turkey and no more NFL on TV.
