Graham: If Kavanaugh goes down under allegations, 'God help us all'
The Hill ^ | 10/02/18 | MEGAN KELLER

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) told reporters Tuesday that the darkest side of American politics would be unleashed if Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh is taken down by allegations of sexual misconduct.

"I keep telling my colleagues, if this is the new normal, God help us all," Graham told reporters in the hallway, according to Fox News. "Taking Kavanaugh down would unleash forces from the darkest side of American politics in perpetuity."

"And if you think only one side is capable of doing this, you're mistaken," he added.

Christine Blasey Ford accused Kavanaugh of attempting to sexually assault her at a party in the summer of 1982.

Kavanaugh unequivocally denied the allegation and produced his calendars from the period, which showed no trace of the alleged party.

All three people Ford named as fellow attendees have said they have no memory of the event, including her life long friend who has said she has never met Kavanaugh though she believes Ford's allegation.

Generally relatively moderate, Graham erupted during Kavanaugh's testimony last Thursday, calling the situation "an unethical sham" and the worst thing he has ever seen in politics.

The senator has been one of the most vocal defenders of Kavanaugh and has gone after Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) for bringing Ford's allegations onto the public stage one week before Kavanaugh's originally scheduled confirmation vote, despite having had them since July.

"The reason I've been so passionate about this, I voted for [Democrat appointed Justices] Sotomayor and Kagan, never thought twice about it," Graham said Tuesday. "I could never imagine me engaging in anything like this to take them down."

"I love the law, it keeps us different than other countries," he explained further, saying that anyone in U.S. "no matter how high and mighty you are you can still be challenged" but that an allegation alone is "not enough."

"It's about a process, it's about encouraging people to come forward who've been treated badly," he said. "About a process so the person can be accused, can defend themselves, and that there are certain systems in place that will stand the test of time."

Graham expressed hope that this would be "a turning point" and stated that he believes Kavanaugh has the votes to be confirmed, though he doesn't think the judge will "ever be the same."

"I think it's a scary time for principles," he said. "If this is not bottom, God help us all."

If Kavanaugh is voted down, it will be a stunning blow to our western legal traditions and one which we may never be able to recover.

It's guilty by accusation. Guilty without evidence. Guilty by hearsay.

We cannot allow Democrats to set yet another new precedent.

I doubt if GOP is capable of this. Where are they going to get billions in dark money, for instance?

Jeff Flake could cast the vote that ends America. If Kavanaugh goes down, I think it’s probably irreparably broken. I hope he’s getting at least 30 pieces of silver.

they should focus all their energy on ensuring Collins and Murkowski and Flake are on board.

If Judge K goes down the next 3 weeks are a full court press to get every single outraged US voter sick of this swamp crap to the polls and elect 5-8 new GOP Senators

Then Trump goes back in Jan to a new GOP Senate with out Flake and Corker and enough new votes to lose the whiny moderate sisters and rams an even tougher more conservative pick up the Dems ...

Trump will pick the next Justice. Kaugavuah is the most moderate of the choice Trump could pick given how evenly balanced the US Senate currently is. Enough wins in Nov and he next one can be much more a hardliner Conservative and the Dems will be powerless to stop it.

Totally believable. Probably didn't think once about it.

It’s always been guilt by association and guilt by hearsay with Dems. It’s the only way they roll.

"And if you think only one side is capable of doing this, you're mistaken," he added.

I don't know about that, Lindsey. Right now, the evidence is that the Democrats and their media allies can come damn close to stopping a conventional, qualified Supreme Court nomination, even though the GOP controls all three branches of government, by pressuring the weak links in the GOP. At this point, Flake, Collins and Murkowski are the weak links. On amnesty where they do the same thing, you are the weak link. They use the media to pick off enough GOP support to stop conservative policies or nominations. The GOP hasn't even tried to do this. No Dem Supreme Court nominee was seriously challenged even when the GOP held a majority of the Senate. Other than Garland. The evidence right now is that the Dems are flexing their muscles more and more and the GOP looks weak.

"...I voted for [Democrat appointed Justices] Sotomayor and Kagan, never thought twice about it," Graham said Tuesday."

He didn't think about it at all. Supreme Court justice appointments are not about fairness as in giving feminists as many women on the Court as men. It's about appointing judges who are honest about the intentions of our Constitution.

Sorry, Linds. Only one side IS capable of this. If the GOP tried to assassinate the character of a Democrat with such bogus, ridiculous accusations, the media would absolutely destroy them and they would be in retreat in about 2 minutes.

Patriotic Americans gave the GOP the strongest grasp thatbtheybhave ever had on the Federal Governments levers of power and they still fail to deliver on their promises and refuse to confirm and excellent and honorable man to the Supreme Court? Republicans hold the Senate, the House, and the Presidency and yet they refuse to deliver so it may be time to form a new political party.

Again: Just like the Dreyfus Affair in France where he was railroaded with lies and distortions. Kavanaugh is our Dreyfus Affair. Who will be our Émile Zola who wrote J’Accuse?

Sorry Senator, the River only flows one direction. The Left’s Media owns the Narrative.

The Rats could put up a guy for POTUS who Raped a Woman and the Left and their Media allies would support him 100%.

I know that hasn’t happened yet. Oh wait...

It’s been the new normal for 30 years, Lindsay. All the while you’ve been giving reach arounds to the democrat party that you’re now so offended by.

“Welcome to America’s Cultural Revolution.”

That’s exactly what’s going on and with the aid of technology, our corrupt stasi state, the propaganda media... the marxists never had it so easy.

I disagree, only one side is capable of doing this. The Republicans will never grow a spine and balls to do something like this depraved travesty that will see unfolding.
