Startup airline OneJet did not resume ticket sales Monday as planned, and it’s unclear whether it ever will.

The carrier announced Aug. 29 it was suspending all flights for eight weeks during an “operational transition,” but planned to resume ticket sales Oct. 1.

As of Wednesday, the announcement was still posted to the carrier’s website , but when customers go to book a flight, the site says no flights are available to any destination.

OneJet CEO Matt Maguire did not return calls seeking comment. Airport spokesman Bob Kerlik said airport officials have not received any information from OneJet

Here is a cool million to base yourself in Pittsburgh because a similar deal with US Air worked out so swimmingly . . .

Pittsburgh? Why fly there? Maybe from there. Can’t imagine enough business to support scheduled flights, except maybe some very small commuter plane to connect with Philly, BWI or somewhere.

Allegheny County is so much like the USSR. Local government believes that the local economy only exists when government is willing to subsidize it. Local CEO’s and “entrepreneurs” all whine that Government isn’t doing enough for them.

The Steelers offense will be taking over. The won’t be scoring either.

Actually lack of direct flights is a serious issue to business people here. Tech companies like Google, Uber, Facebook, have a substantial and growing presence here.

But Government bribing people to fly in here never works.

I have a high-school classmate whose husband was a mechanic for US Air. Back when Allegheny County paid for this new airport and made that deal with US Air to keep their hub here he thought he had a job for life. They planned their lives accordingly. Bought a house, etc.

When they left town he was left high and dry. I don’t think she’s had a decent job since. She had to go back to nursing school in her late 40’s so they could pay the bills.

Never stake your future on promises from government.

It is, but it is also overrated. Back in the day when U.S. Air owned 70% of our gates and direct flights were plentiful, I remember driving to Cleveland for reasonable fares. Not long after U.S. Air moved most of their operations to Charlotte and Philly, Delta, Southwest and others moved in to buy up the empty gates. Fares plunged and choices actually incereased except for the direct flights.

The airport is still underutilized, but don't forget that it was built that large for U.S. Air specifications.

Dunno about anyone else, but if I were undecided re which airline to use, the name ‘OneJet’ would give me pause.

As someone who lived in Pittsburgh for 35 years (not born there and now retired to SC where I was born) let me just say that the ‘Burgh is an awesome town. If you haven’t been there you are missing out. Truly an undiscovered gem. Yes, the politics of Allegheny County are ridiculous, but the people are friendly and down to earth. Great sports town, lots of cultural events, amazing universities and outstanding restaurants. I miss the Burgh every day.

Yeah, as a sourcing professional who has dealt with literally thousands of companies over my lifetime, I've found a certain amount of coding in places using One, First, Source and other generic terms in their name.

Often, it means they are being owned by an investment company. Some of them are looking to sell the business at a proft, others merely to milk it and strip it of its client base. You never know.

I think this is one reason Warren Buffett still uses the names of two long defunct New England textile mills (Berkshire and Hathaway) which have next to nothing to do with his current business holdings.

That was some interesting stuff, thanks !

Here’s how that name actuall struck my funny/mocking bone:

‘Hi, thanks for calling OneJet .. we only have that one jet, but would you like to go where we’re flying it ?’

As though an outfit with one jet prolly shouldn’t call themselves an ‘airline’ quite yet .. lol !

What you say is true. We transplanted here just over 16 years ago (after 14+ years in Japan). Lots of flights between the Burgh and Myrtle Beach and other Carolina destinations, so I am sure you aren't alone.

In August, we rode the free part of the T from PNC Park back to our parking area with a lot of Milwaukee Brewer fans after beating them in the 2nd game of what turned out to be a five game sweep. They couldn't stop marveling about how friendly and nice Pirate fans were to visitors.

That was almost as good as savoring another Bucco win.
