F.B.I. to End Kavanaugh Inquiry as Soon as Wednesday, With Vote Coming This Week

Senate Republican leaders pressed on Tuesday to wrap up the confirmation of Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, seizing on word from the F.B.I. that it would complete its investigation into allegations of sexual assault and sexual misconduct as early as Wednesday.

“We’ll have an F.B.I. report this week, and we’ll have a vote this week,” an emphatic Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the majority leader, told reporters after the Republicans’ weekly policy luncheon.

But Mr. McConnell’s promise was as much about bluffing as it was about confidence, giving the nomination an air of inevitability even as five undecided senators will determine Judge Kavanaugh’s fate. Those five — the Republicans Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Jeff Flake of Arizona, and the Democrats Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota and Joe Manchin III of West Virginia — are refusing to tip their hands.

The push for a quick vote on Judge Kavanaugh came as the Senate and the White House waited for the F.B.I. to finish its work. President Trump, who has made stocking the federal judiciary with committed conservatives like Judge Kavanaugh a signature of his White House tenure, expressed qualified optimism on Tuesday, noting that this was the seventh time the nominee had undergone a background check.

“I think that Judge Kavanaugh is doing pretty well — it seems to me — over the last 24 hours,” Mr. Trump told reporters on the South Lawn of the White House. “A lot is going to depend on what comes back from the F.B.I., in terms of their additional — No. 7 — investigation.”

The president also expressed concern for men, especially young men, who he said face a “very scary situation” when accused of sexual misconduct.

They are all mystified that a report which was to take no more than one week is going to take no more than 1 week.

Our whole process is so goofed up. We have too many dishonest and evil characters that have infiltrated so many facets of life. On both sides. Not sure how this ship is ever going to be righted.

The Red State Demwits were put into this position by the party leadership with the eager assistance of the partisan media shills (in which category belongs the NY Slimes, source of this). RINOs were put into this position by the Demagogic Party and by their own ideological stupidity.

The news media has been trying this since monday morning. Several outlets are trying to say that the FBI was done monday morning. Then each one says the FBI will conclude its investigation on tuesday or on wednesday. The reason for this is to imply that it was an inadequate probe. They are in bed with the democrats who will try that tact if it comes back not nailing Brett Kavanaugh to the wall. They’ve been indicating same starting last friday. Just watch!

The entire process of advise and consent is so far out of whack. The process needs to be streamlined, limited discussion and should take no more than a day or two.

All this stuff from 20-30-40 years ago is beyond ridiculous. We had Romney cutting some kids hair in high school and making the dog ride on top of the car in a carrier. Now we have even come to throwing a piece of ice in a bar with Judge K.

Maybe we need to apply the same scrutiny and standards to every media person or member of congress that calls these things out.

Not sure how this ship is ever going to be righted.

It won't be righted. It will sink. Then will build a brand new one. The way WE want it.
