I served from 66-69 making me a Vietnam Era Veteran. I would never presume to call myself a Vietnam Veteran.
Also Nam era. Conscription ended while we were in recruit training in March/April 1973.
A friend was in the Navy. He was on the ground at a port in Vietnam when it came under attact. He had to take cover for several hours.
Even though he was in vietnam, under Fire he doesnt even call himself a Vietnam era veteran.
I work with a guy who was an Army cannon cocker over there, He has some stories.
Me too. Air Force, 1964-1968...VietNam era, yes...VietNam service, no.
I spent my four years in Maine, and in Germany, having the time of my life.
I won’t even wear my USAF cap in public because people come up and thank me for my service...I don’t feel like I deserve that thanks for what I did in the Air Force was to get excellent training for a future civilian career, play in my band, and chase girls.
The only saving grace I might lean on is, I was IN, and I guess I was subject to being sent to VietNam, but I was never sent. The missiles I worked on went to Vietnam, so I guess that was my ‘indirect’ connection.
66-70, and I make sure it is understood that I am an Era Vet.
