Howie Carr: Elizabeth Warren's castoffs? Priceless! (Squaw heap big tax cheat alert)
Boston Herald ^ | October 3, 2018 | Howie Carr

Posted on 10/04/2018 7:01:41 AM PDT by Zakeet

More than three years ago, Sen. Elizabeth Warren told the Internal Revenue Service that she had donated $50,000 in used clothing and "household items" to local thrift stores in 2014.

Fifty grand worth of clothes! Donated! In one year.

That was the fake Indian’s story and she was sticking to it - until late yesterday afternoon, after we inquired about her rather, uh, profligate spending habits.

Suddenly, the fake Indian's story changed.

The totals, her flack said, were "entry errors."

Hey, Senator, glad I could be of service, in helping you correct your false filing. (And I assume the returns, signed under pains and penalties of perjury, will now be corrected.)

But, the clothes had sweat and other stains ingrained into the fabrics. Not fit for a fake Cherokee Princess to wear.

Years ago, I was told that you can only claim 25% of the value of an item that is donated. If she claimed $50,000, then the value of the items she donated should have been $200,000. For clothes? Wow! If the items weren’t worth $200,000, then The Faker may need to recalculate and refile her tax returns, ya think?

Imagine the IRS audit anyone of us would get if we claimed 50k in donated items?

She won’t. Because laws only apply to the chumps. Not them.

warren is so stupid by my account on this clothing bit.

Maybe she’s just too damn lazy . She thinks she knows all

about money but if she took her clothing & accoutremonts

to a consignment shop she’ make something off of it...

pardon my cynicism

According to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS),
a taxpayer can deduct the “fair market value” of clothing,
household goods, used furniture, shoes, books and so forth.
“Fair market value” is the price a willing buyer would pay for them.

Go to a Thrift Store and see what they charge for used items. I paid $5 for a $100 pair of Miss Me jeans. I paid $6 for a pair of tennis shoes worth $125 new.

I was told the same thing by a CPA who prepared my taxes. Padding donations is, IMO, an At Risk deal. If you ever have to prove a deduction that is ridiculous.

Eh. That's just one or two of the designer gowns that were "donated" to Michelle Obama for formal White House events.
