Re-elect Gov. Bruce Rauner to give Illinois a fighting chance
Chicago Tribune ^ | October 15, 2018 | Editorial Board of Chicago Tribune

You know what you think of Bruce Rauner and J.B. Pritzker. One promised to shatter the status quo and admits he has come up short. The other removes mansion toilets to save on taxes and coos on FBI recordings with a corrupt Rod Blagojevich.

Now set all of that aside. Focus instead on the one reality that should guide your vote for governor of Illinois.

Combative campaigns, like summer romances, tend to be fun and have no lasting consequence. But after this election, one of these men — Republican Rauner or Democrat Pritzker — likely will govern with an overwhelmingly Democratic legislature until the first days of 2023...

Re-elect Gov. Bruce Rauner to give Illinois a fighting chance to raise your taxes beyond the roof clouds.

As a former Illinoisan with family still there downstate, I say NO. Rauner is a gofer for the Chicago political mafia.

Illinois needs to disassociate itself from Chicago much like the efforts to do so in California.

Awww, isn't that cute? The Tribune wants readers to believe they're still a "conservative paper" because they endorse a RINO combiner from time to time, in between their fawning Obama and Lisa Madigan coverage.

I agree. Let Pritzker crash the System and turn IL into Venezuela North.

There is nothing Rauner can do to save Illinois. Chicago is like a massive star that has reached its red super-giant phase. Soon city workers and retirees will realize that their pensions are worthless. Chicago will collapse, go super nova and take down the entire state.

Meanwhile, Rahm et al will carry on looting.

Rauner is a RINO. Its the Rat Combine that runs elections in IL.

I don’t think Rauner has a chance in hell!
I haven’t seen a single Rauner sign or bumper sticker anywhere in central IL., yet JB signs are everywhere!
This state is so screwed it’s not even funny. Highest tax burden in the nation & JB is running on raising taxes & people are excited for him?!?!?
I will never understand the liberal mindset & I’m most likely stuck here until I can retire in 15yrs.

Good analysis.

I think the remnants of the GOP in that state are deluding themselves.

Yeah, well, it’s not like JB Pritzker is much different.

Rauner has been a huge disappointment but in an imperfect world, huge disappointments are preferable to total democrat rule.

When Illinois flames out it is very likely to start the dominoes falling in the other states with pension fund disasters on the burner.

There is no way the feds can manufacture sufficient money to bail out the top ten pension fund disaster states.

Instead of not voting in the gubernatorial race, I just might take a chance on McCann. It really can’t hurt. Besides, if Pritzker gets in, I get out of this state. I’m not paying for the collapse that’s coming.

His spot on my ballot stays blank.

Period.

Sadly, it takes someone as out-of-touch as Rauner to assure the election of a total moron like Pritzker. But at least Rauner can go back to his North Shore mansion comforted by the fact that he’s kept his wife, her friends at Planned Parenthood, and the open borders crowd happy (even though of those only his wife will actually be voting for him).

BTTT.

I feel bad for Jeanne Ives.

She should have won that race.

Jeanne Ives was a legit GOP candidate - she would have torn Jelly Bean apart.

And she sacrificed that race by telling her supporters to vote for Dan Lipinski, IIRC.
