Senate races move right, House races move left in political fallout from Kavanaugh fight

The nomination fight over Judge Brett Kavanaugh has injected new volatility into the midterm elections, reshaping races across the country and sharpening the already bitterly partisan tone for the final four-week stretch before Nov. 6. But in the House, the Cook Political Report and other predictors have moved more than half a dozen seats in the Democratic direction in recent days, and Republican operatives are bracing themselves for an onslaught of Democratic money that they are calling "a green wave." Gubernatorial races - in which Democrats are trying to regain territory that they've lost in recent years, particularly in the Midwest - are also trending left. "There's nothing quite like a good old-fashioned Supreme Court fight to polarize the electorate - and that's what we've observed in the past few weeks," said David Wasserman, House editor of the nonpartisan Cook Political Report. "The Kavanaugh issue has almost acted as a centrifuge to separate red and blue elements of the electorate even more."

Democrats are feeling confident about winning a net of 23 seats needed to control the House. Already, Republicans are pulling money from several districts they had initially hoped could be within their grasp.

Republicans are suffering particular problems among highly educated voters who live outside urban centers like Kansas City, Philadelphia and Denver.

The National Republican Congressional Committee pulled about $1 million in planned spending from the 3rd Congressional District in Kansas, where Rep. Kevin Yoder is running for re-election. Outside groups have also been pulling ads from districts held by Rep. Barbara Comstock, R-Va., and Rep. Mike Coffman, R-Colo., an indication that they no longer see those races as competitive.

“If the Democratic base gets any more excited they may have to seek medical attention,” said Corry Bliss, who runs the Congressional Leadership Fund, which is aligned with House Speaker Paul Ryan of Wisconsin to preserve the House GOP majority. “In the last week things have undeniably improved in our polling. Republican intensity and excitement are through the roof. Now we need to keep the trend going for the next few weeks.”

Give me the Senate and I’ll be happy - we need the JUDGES. As noted by others, if the Dems win the House, they’ll make such a SPECTACLE of themselves that Trump will be able to coast to victory in 2020.

As the Senate races move right, the GOP is starting to commit increasingly more funds to house races.

I realize that the House and Senate have different electoral dynamics.

But with that said, how is it that the two houses are trending in opposite directions? Yes, the Democrats have more Senate seats to defend--especially in "Red" states. But aren't Democrat voters more concentrated? Who cares if the GOP candidate loses a district centered on Manhattan by 20 points instead of 10?

I think LS said that Comstock's seat is no longer seen as vulnerable.

Campaigning by Trump is critical to keep Republican enthusiasm levels up. Which he is doing.

I don’t want the winning to end. With Ryan gone, and a resurgent Senate, we could make enormous progress turning back the Leftward March in America and make her great again.

I don’t want Pelosi as Speaker, Maxine Waters as Budget Chairman, Gerry Nadler as Judiciary Chair or Adam Schiff as Intelligence chair.

Can you image the DAMAGE they could do?

I SHUDDER at the very idea!

See my tagline!

What we saw with the Kavanaugh hearings is a highly organized, Soros sponsored effort to seize control of our government. Our side isn't organized, nor do we have billionaires sprinkling WAM money to street cretins to act out. The midterms are crucial to our independence and we need to win this the old fashioned way, vote by vote. I'm holding my nose and working for the GOP every day until 11/6. Why? Because our enemies Will.Not.Stop.

Please join with me today.

Just remember the first order of the Democrat House will be the Impeachment of DJT followed by the Impeachment of SCOTUS BK.

And all that will be followed by repeal of as much DJT passed laws and reinstatement of regulations as possible, and the hollowing out of mil funds, the coal and oil industries will be hit hard, while prices skyrocket for most everything imaginable, jobs will be slashed under reinstated onerous taxation and regulations ... and that will just be the start of the biggest horror circus ever witnessed by the losers - us.

We need BOTH Houses or we lose as does DJT.

The very idea of the RATS regaining either chamber of congress is terrifying beyond belief!!!

We need to hold the house under the leadership of new Speaker Jim Jordan from Ohio. Must have full funding for the Wall and continue current investigations into the Deep State Swamp as well!!!

Any power ceded to the RATS is equivalent to enabling domestic terrorists to run amok, wreaking havoc upon anybody and everything we hold dear!!!

The only thing they have to cling to is the Party in power loses seats except under GW where he gained seats. Trump will gain them.

I don’t see 23 seats going blue. Maybe 10-12.

But with that said, how is it that the two houses are trending in opposite directions?

Simple.

The Left has the majority.

The Constitution's republican architecture has protected us (so far) from tyranny exercised by the Leftist majority, but the patience of the majority is wearing thin and will soon boil over into a) mob violence including lynchings and b) interposition and nullification by whole states.

I haven't seen yet the figures for the population of states represented by the 48 "no" votes on Kavanaugh vs. the population of the states represented by the 50 "yes" votes, but I don't even have to look to know the numbers would be overwhelming in favor of "no".

Now - I am opposed to democracy. Absolutely, positively, 100% opposed. Allowing idiots to vote is no way to have a stable government OR the Blessings of Liberty for Ourselves and our Posterity.

So I have no problems with the way Al Gore and Hillary Clinton were defeated, and I have no problem with the way Brett Kavanaugh was confirmed.

But it's pretty clear that there is a numerical majority that do have such a problem, and are becoming willing to act on it.

If you want us to prevail, if you want our people to survive and to thrive, then you had better understand that we represent a despised and shrinking numerical minority and that non-democratic structures (the Electoral College and the Senate) are what are keeping us in the game.
