Kasich: I think it will be a very good year for Democrats in midterms
The Hill ^ | 10/07/18 | MEGAN KELLER

Gov. John Kasich (R-Ohio) said Sunday that he thinks Democrats will have a "good year" in the November midterms.

"How good? I'm not so sure, because if their message is abolish ICE and things like that, if -- they're not going to have a big wave," Kasich said on CNN's "State of the Union."

"The natural progression of things is, when the president's in two years out, the other party does well," he said.

"I don't know how big the wave is going to be," the governor said. "So we got to see what happens in November, but then we have to move beyond that election and try to get this country unified."

Kasich has been critical of the Republican Party, saying in April that it "left me." The possible 2020 White House contender lost a 2016 bid to President Trump, whom he has chastised.

Analysts have said that Democrats are going into the midterms in a strong position to gain a majority in the House, although their chances of retaking the Senate are eroding.

However, some have begun to predict that the recent confirmation fight over Justice Brett Kavanaugh may galvanize the Republican base to counteract the sluggishness that usually effects the winning party two years after a presidential election.

Democrats currently hold a 6.6 percentage point lead over Republicans in a RealClearPolitics average of generic congressional ballot surveys.

Serious question: Does anyone know why Kasich is still a Republican?

It will be a good time at the polls for the Democrats. Many of their elected officials will have more free time on their hands come January.

Veteran GOP operative Bill Kristol is seeking a Republican candidate to take on Trump in 2020
SEP 14 2018

Bill Kristol, one of President Trump’s most vocal opponents, is creating a political war machine to take on the commander in chief in 2020.

Kristol says his nonprofit organization Defending Democracy Together is seeking a GOP candidate to run against Trump.

He’s engaged with three potential Republican primary candidates who are outspoken critics of the president: Sen. Ben Sasse of Nebraska, outgoing Sen. Jeff Flake of Arizona and Ohio Gov. John Kasich.

“Does anyone know why Kasich is still a Republican?”

My guess is that he likely thinks this is the best chance for him to win in a given election in his state. It's political, not principle driven. This is the same as lots of politicians.

I don’t

Other than he’s been blackmailed to keep his “label”

No one adopts the left wing positions and criticisms he does unless there’s something amiss.

Three more months until he is ex-governor Kasich. Go find a nice office on K Street and don't bother Ohio any more.

If there is anyone who deserves Oliver Cromwell's dismissal it is Kasich. "You have sat too long for any good you have been doing lately ... Depart, I say; and let us have done with you. In the name of God, go!"

Trump hasn’t played any of his cards for this election yet. More tax cuts, student loan remodeling, infrastructure and crushing China and the EU on trade deals. Kasich was never a big thinker.
