A writer for CBS's "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" on Sunday apologized for her "sarcasm" in a deleted tweet about newly confirmed Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
Ariel Dumas on Saturday tweeted, "Whatever happens, I'm just glad we ruined Brett Kavanaugh's life." The post quickly went viral, as multiple conservative pundits retweeted it with critical commentary.
Dumas the next day said the tweet was a "tone-deaf attempt at sarcasm."
"The last couple of weeks have been hard for the country and for me personally," she wrote. "The complexity of frustration, anger and sadness cant be accurately conveyed on twitter, and I regret my tone-deaf attempt at sarcasm in the wake of it."
The last couple of weeks have been hard for the country and for me personally. The complexity of frustration, anger and sadness cant be accurately conveyed on twitter, and I regret my tone-deaf attempt at sarcasm in the wake of it.
Ariel Dumas (@ArielDumas) October 7, 2018 She posted earlier in the week that she was "emotionally shattered by the current state of affairs."
Kavanaugh during his confirmation process over the past several weeks faced multiple allegations of sexual misconduct, which he denied.
He was confirmed to the Supreme Court on Saturday.
Dumas' original tweet came as Kavanaugh was being confirmed.
She posted an article earlier in the week that criticized Kavanaugh for saying the accusations had "ruined" him.
"In his statements to the committee, Judge Kavanaugh said the allegations against him had ruined his life even though he may well be confirmed to a lifetime appointment on the Supreme Court," read The New York Times article by writer Roxane Gay, from which Dumas tweeted screenshots.
"The bar for a man's ruin is, apparently, quite low," Gay wrote. "May we all be so lucky as to have our lives ruined."
Yeah, it was just a joke. Riiiiight.
“The last couple of weeks have been hard for the country and for me personally”
The aptly named Dumas. Hard on you personally?!?!?!?! That’s gotta be your best joke in years! Go away, loser.
Yeah, coming to the realization that trumped-up charges of sexual harassment just don't cut the mustard in the age of Trump must be a bitch.
But only conservatives get fired for expressing their opinions, even just for supporting the president. These people make me sick. The best thing we can do is deny them the only thing they want - power and control over us.
>>”The bar for a man’s ruin is, apparently, quite low,” Gay wrote. “May we all be so lucky as to have our lives ruined.”
called him a serial rapist
said he drugged women and coordinated rape trains
called him an angry drunk and a lush
phoned in death threats against his wife and kids
A straight apology maybe give her a second chance. Lying that it was sarcasm, go to hell. POS
Heh heh heh. Her name is DUMASS!
What a Dumas...
She is a real person? That is her real name?
I saw where someone thought it was a clever bit of satire because if you say the name Ariel Dumas a little faster than normal it sounds like A Real Dumb A$$.
Well satire or not she certainly is A Real Dumb....
I know 3 of the 11 writers they have at the show. 90% of the staff are TRUMP HATERS.
She meant it 100% and the bitch just got caught..
screw the dumbass skank. She and people just like her caused Kavanaugh’s children to be threatened, scared and emotionally assaulted.
She should rot in that special hell for people who bring harm to children.
She is the liar on the left who I so strongly hate, she and all like her.
Hard for the country? Geez, not even 10% of the country gave a rat's ass about all this.
It was pure spite.
Unfortunately for Ariel Dumas, she has a name that stands out. Whenever her name pops up, people will remember her for this spiteful remark.
I know Sarcasm, and Ariel Dumas has no clue what Sarcasm is. /s
Not just DUMASS
A REAL DUMASS!
You can tell she’s a rabid lefty. Look at the crazy eyes. They all have it! As a former Democrat it took me a long time to wake up and realize I was being duped. I hope one day Miss Dum(b)as(s) will wake up too!
