If things go well it may be sooner than that.

No way. He’s too old and too soft. Although he has done good lately.

He kept mentioning that when the Opposing Party of the POTUS runs the Senate, they haven't put through a Nominee in the Presidential Election Year since the 1880’s.

That Historical FACT applies to BOTH Political Parties and preempts the so called Biden Rule.

Poor Chris Wallace just couldn't quite understand the point.

Exaggerated article. I watched the interview.

McConnell left the question WIDE open.

He handled the leading question perfectly.

Of course, an open SCOTUS seat will be filled provided Mitch’s team is the majority and Trump is POTUS!

When Chris Wallace asked him that question, McConnell said that it had been the practice since 1888 that when the White House is one party and the Senate is run by another party, the Senate does not approve a Supreme Court nomination in an election year.

Wallace acted dumb. And asked if McConnell would honor that tradition in 2020 if there was a vacancy and President Trump submitted a nomination.

DUH! If McConnell is running the Senate, the opposite party is not in control of the Senate. So the rule McConnell cites doesn’t apply.

Wallace asked the question again. McConnell gave him a look like, “Are you that stupid?” And repeated his answer. Wallace never got it.

Like it matters. Short of a complete economic collapse, Trump is going to be re-elected by the biggest landslide since Reagan/Mondale

He is talking about his consideration of another nominee during the final year of Trump’s first term. You have to read the articles as headlines often mislead.

He was questioned on this on FOX yesterday. Historically, they wait until the next president begins their time if within the last year of the current president. He beat around the bush and wouldn’t answer if the Senate would consider it in 2020. IOW, you’re darned right he would consider it.

I saw the interview with the Turtle saying essentially: “We’ll cross that bridge when and if it appears. I won’t commit now, especially to YOU!”

I don’t doubt that is what impression you were left with but what he was talking about is his acceptance of a 2020 nominee for the court. The tradition is that the President at the close of his term in an election year doesn’t have his nominee advanced by the opposing party if it is in control of the Senate. Biden mouthed about this a few years back but his attempt to claim a precedent failed to address the qualification that the party of the President is out of control when such a nomination is held without action.

Ah that’s a stupid headline. He has no choice when a nominee comes up. If rgb dies he’ll be doing this again.
