Court Mood is Jovial as Kavanaugh Takes His Place on Bench
KSTP-TV ^ | October 9, 2018 | The Associated Press

Brett Kavanaugh took the bench with his new Supreme Court colleagues for the first time Tuesday in a jovial atmosphere that was strikingly at odds with the tension and rancor surrounding his high-court confirmation.

The new justice dived into his new job, asking a handful of questions in the first arguments of the day following a traditional welcome from Chief Justice John Roberts, who wished Kavanaugh "a long and happy career in our common calling."

Kavanaugh took his seat at the end of the bench to Roberts' far left, a visible manifestation of a moment that Republicans have dreamed of for decades, with five solidly conservative justices on the court, and Democrats have dreaded.

His path to confirmation was turbulent — opposition to him intensified after Christine Blasey Ford accused him of sexually assaulting her decades ago, when they were teenagers. Kavanaugh denied it.

In court, Kavanaugh asked questions of both sides in arguments over increased prison sentences for repeat offenders. He jumped in with his first question after most of the other justices had spoken....

Yay :)! Praise God. I’ve always marveled at how well the justices all got along. Often it’s the judges on the most opposite ends of the spectrum who end up being closest friends. (Like opera buddies Scalia and Ginsberg.)

Elena Kagan hired Brett Kavanaugh to join the Harvard Law faculty. To bring more conservative diversity...

A 5-4 conservative bench is nice, but soon a 6-3 bench will be even nicer . . . and I’m still trying to wrap my head around a 7-2 bench.

I mean, heck, the liberal justices might as well not even show up.

Roberts isn't all that solid.

You mean RBG didn’t sneer, “I don’t shake hands with rapists”?

I could see yesterday that Justice Ruth “Buzzy” Ginsberg was out right giddy. Mischief was written all over her face.

I haven’t read anywhere about Justice Anthony Kennedy’s silence during this whole tawdry Kavanaugh confirmation process.

Kavanaugh was his clerk! He could have chimed in. He is retired and free to speak his mind, but he never, as far as I know, defended Kavanaugh.

He just let his law clerk twist in the wind. Shameful and disgraceful.
But at least Kennedy will still be able to make the DC cocktail party circuit.

Yes and the little know fact is that as the newest Justice...Kav has to open the door and get the coffee for the other Justices as well as be in charge of the cafeteria menu...or soemthign like that... Great job!

Kennedy wrote after the last hearing that he thought Kavanaugh shouldn’t be on the court as his “angry” defense of the false charges was too partisan.

I noticed that all of the “news” stories talked about how Trump apologized for the false accusations and lies by the democrats.

FAKE NEWS. Trump never even alluded to the democrats. He just said false accusations and lies, and the un-American process of guilty until proven innocent. The reporter added the part about the democrats. Heck - Flake is a Republican and called for the extra investigation, and Grassley allowed Ford to come up.

Roberts will be the new swing vote. He’s not solidly Conservative no matter what the pundits say.

He’s already asking questions? It took years for Clarence Thomas to open his mouth.

Gorsuch didn't have to undergo the rookie process very long. Hopefully Kavanaugh won't, either.
