I don’t trust Roberts either - perhaps the change in personnel will make a difference...he now has an extra good minds to dissent some of his lapses...I’d like to think he was just a weak-kneed wimp that bowed to a lot of pressure and maybe regrets what he did...hope he proves that is a possible answer...

Are you saying that Justice Kennedy was right to just keep quiet and not defend his law clerk in any way?

I do not accept your premise that he did not help "in any way", and although I don't know if you have the knowledge or expertise even to declare that he did nothing, I am no fan of "all or nothing" language, because it usually indicates a person who speaks rashly and judges harshly out of his/her depth.

But even if he did do "nothing", I commend him for erring on the side of discretion as befits a top Justice of the land. The Court gets politicized by small increments. He wisely avoided adding another. What he did do is play a key role in the reconciliation and show of support at the swearing-in.

What he did behind the scenes, I don't know; but I suspect a LOT of positive help. What he did behind the scenes, you probably do NOT know; but you suspect utter negativity and condemn without knowing. See the difference?

My comment was about public support.
If he helped in some way privately; fine, but private support would do nothing to calm or counter the media outrage.

If Justice Kennedy truly valued his law clerk he could have made a simple statement about his work ethic and temperament. He could have even joked that they had a beer together.

I do not commend him for erring on the side of discretion. What befits a “top Justice of the land” is to be loyal to one who has served you well.

You are assuming his silence is a sign of support. I can’t assume that.

“The court gets politicized,” you said. How about the court IS politicized.
Ginsburg trashes Trump and Kagan ( who hired Kavanaugh at Harvard ) now regards his temperament as unsuitable for the court.

We are so done here. Kindly just drop it. You have not made your case to me. Find someone else to haggle with.

Yeah we are. Hard to argue about being a decent person and saying something nice about someone who worked so diligently for you.

Your argument to the contrary was so done the minute it started.
