Matthew Shepard to be interred 20 years after brutal murder
BBC News ^ | 11th October 2018 | BBC News

Matthew Shepard was savagely killed in Wyoming in 1998 at the age of 21 and went on to became a symbol on anti-gay violence in the US.

After being robbed by two men, he was repeatedly beaten and tied to a fence in near freezing conditions.

A cyclist found him after 18 hours. Six days later he died.

His parents cremated the body and kept the ashes, worried that a final resting place would be vandalised. But now he will finally be laid to rest.

The remains will be interred inside the crypt of Washington National Cathedral on 26 October, his family says.

How was Matthew Shepard murdered?

The University of Wyoming student was openly gay.

On 7 October 1998, he was lured from a bar in the city of Laramie by two men, Aaron McKinney and Russell Henderson. They both confessed to telling Shepard they were gay and offering him a ride home with the intent to rob him.

They became angry when Shepard made a sexual advance, they said, and drove the student to an isolated area outside town.

There, the attackers tied him to a wooden fence and repeatedly struck Shepard's head with a handgun.

The cyclist who found him first mistook the student for a scarecrow.

Shepard was taken a local hospital and then moved to a better facility in Fort Collins, Colorado.

His skull was so badly fractured by the beating that doctors said surgery was not an option. He died on 12 October.

Henderson pleaded guilty to murder and kidnapping and sentenced to life in prison. McKinney was also given a life sentence after being found guilty.

What was the reaction to his killing?

The brutal attack caused national outrage and put the spotlight on the violence against the LGBT community.

There was a thread that says he was attacked in a drug deal or something...is this the same case?

Another hoax hate crime.

Matthew Shepard’s murderer was his bisexual drug dealer with whom he would sometimes exchange drugs for sex.

Peter Boyles (AM talk show) is going off about this in Denver.

He was killed in a bad drug deal, not because he was gay.

Yes. He was a gay icon. In reality, it was a drug deal gone bad.

But if they bury him, how will they parade his corpse around for publicity?

They were all crack heads who met at a WY college town bar .
They robbed him after he went with them to buy and use .
Nothing to do with gay crap .
His mother wanted him to be remembered for a lie vs
he got killed in a crack deal gone
bad .

This lie is still out there .

I think ABC news blew up that lie in a report .

He was not attacked for being gay. A lie that has been perpetrated through the years.

That’s not an option anyway — he was already turned into a pile of ashes.

A drug deal gone bad. Had nothing to do with sexuality.

All 3 of the guys were gay meth heads. Not crack. The guy who did the killing was a sex partner of Mathew Sheppard on several occasions. All 3 were also gay prostitutes. The 2 guys who did the killing had been doing meth for 5 or 6 days and had not been to sleep for those days. It was all about meth and money and a lack of sleep and not about homo-phobia. The progression agenda will lie about everything in order to craft a false narrative. And yes, Peter Boyles AM710 Denver has got a vast knowledge of history. Early morning till 8:53 am Mountain Time.

The reason I asked is because just a few years back, I had to burn some vacation time or I was going to lose it, and my wife gets far less than I do, so I took a week off and was going to drive around the country...no plan, just get in the car and drive. (My wife is tops...she said to go for it!)

I had this plan to buy some cigars, just drive wherever I felt like going with the windows down and moon roof open...just to see the country. I had one week, and wanted to go horseback riding at a place I knew off the Blue Ridge Parkway near Bedford, VA, so I started out from New England with that as my day one destination...

It poured rain, so I didn't ride, stayed two nights at the horse farm, and kept going, and got it in my head I was going to go to the Four Corners monument in Utah. I got as far as Louisville, KY and realized I couldn't make it, and while having dinner, figured out where to go. I decided to go to Nebraska because I had never been there. I pulled out a map, closed my eyes, and put my finger down on a random town in the southeast corner of the state...Falls City.

That was my destination.

So, as I ate my dinner, I decided to see if there was anything interesting there. Turns out the only thing it was known for was the murder of some transvestite, they even had a monument in town for it. Realizing that kind of sucked as a destination, I decided to pick another town, and ended up choosing Tecumseh, NE. That had a far more interesting, and somewhat spicy history...:)

Anyway, here was the route I ended up taking in about six days:

So, I am reading this story about this murdered homosexual, and thinking what...is THAT the guy? But no...a different homosexual who was murdered, both in some rural part of the country, both beatified by the Left.

Thanks for making me laugh out loud. If you don’t laugh you’ll cry.

It is weird. It sounds callous, but to me, murder is murder. What difference does it make because someone is murdered because of their sexual orientation, skin color, or gender? They are still dead. It isn’t more or less horrible, it is still murder.

This whole business of “hate crimes” really rubs me the wrong way. If someone commits a crime, you prosecute them for that crime. Period.

“Hate Crimes” have an Orwellian odor to them.

Yes...I was getting confused thinking it was the same guy who had a shrine to him, but...the story said he was murdered in WY. They both have shrines I guess.

I was going to say, I thought it was strange the guy was being interred in the National Cathedral because he was a brutally murdered homosexual, but, on reflection, there isn’t anything Godly about that church, if some of the things I have read the last few years are any indication, so it isn’t like they are compromising someone’s principles or risking any accusations it is inappropriate to do that. It is who they are.

I guess I should be relieved they didn’t put him in Arlington.
