Lee: We must get to the bottom of any Kavanaughcalypse plot
Hot Air ^ | October 10, 2018 | Ed Morrissey

Today Mike Lee renews the demand for an investigation in this interview with Hugh Hewitt. Lee refrains from hanging the blame directly on Schumer, but insists that it belongs somewhere — and that there were too many coincidences to just shrug it off as bad luck:

Of all the curiosities listed by Lee, the most curious of all is Ford’s contention that she was unaware that Chuck Grassley had offered to go to her rather than force her to come to DC. Not only did Grassley make that offer repeatedly to her attorneys, but also repeatedly mentioned it publicly. The media covered that offer, too, a number of times. Grassley extended that offer in response to the representation from Ford’s attorneys that Ford could not fly, a representation that turned out to be embarrassingly false.

Lee takes that claim at face value, but that seems difficult to credit, given the wall-to-wall coverage of the exchanges. The point of the flying phobia was to put off the second hearing as long as possible. Grassley, the other Senate Republicans, and Kavanaugh himself wanted it done immediately or not at all. Ford, her attorneys, and Senate Democrats demanded it wait until she could travel by car to DC. That gave 10 days for others to launch allegations against Kavanaugh, allowing the media to talk about a “pattern” of accusations without mentioning that there wasn’t any corroboration for any of them, as the FBI later found. Having the committee come to her immediately would have closed that window much more quickly, which is why the attorneys publicly rejected the offer.

Was Ford oblivious to all of those machinations? It’s possible, but it doesn’t seem very likely, especially given the other “coincidences” Lee notes. That doesn’t mean Ford was the one plotting them or even agreeing with them — she could well have been exploited even if she knew what was going on — but to conclude that she was completely in the dark also assumes facts not in evidence.

Why do DC Pols think Ford was a victim?

She was part and parcel to the whole scheme.

They don't. They just say they do out of cowardice in the face of the leftist mob.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
No doubt about it. At first she said she had no idea how to get ahold of DiFI to give her the letter. So she has never heard of them newfangled internets where you can find out anything?
She said she was afraid of flying. Except when she flew all over the world all the time.
The two door thing.
The little wounded girl voice thing.
Didn’t know anything about the polygragh she took a few weeks ago.
Another million lies but who’s counting.
My hope is there will be a criminal investigation after the election...My expectation is the criminal investigation won’t happen.
Sad.
There’s also the issue of political optics. Going after her might not be the right thing, politically - but going after some of her advisors would probably be OK politically, and would send the message not to pull this BS again.
“She was part and parcel to the whole scheme.”
Absolutely, and that’s what Lee is essentially saying. I’m really tired of the Republicans calling Ford “credible” and that “something did happen to her”
I view her as a operative, not a victim.
If Dr. Fraud is offered big bucks speaking engagements, which voice will she use? Could it be that she's backed into a corner to continue with that squeaky little girl voice, or have her cover blown by using her natural voice?
Hugh and series dilemma.
I don’t think BabyTalk Ford was a “victim”.
I think she was aware of the machinations going on and was completely onboard with them. I doubt that “something” happened to her in the past and that her “repressed emotions/experiences” kept her from remembering the details and thereby confused her into thinking that Kavanaugh committed the “something” when in fact some other person actually did it. (Contrary to many of the Republican senators who said “I think something did happen to Ms. Ford but it did not involve Judge Kavanaugh”.)
In MHO she is a leftist and a liar.
She was not credible.
We can investigate till the cows come home, but which laws apply? Exploiting false charges for political gain is a virtue these days.
The three women were members of the resistance. Probably DSA members. This entire thing was a transparent fraud.
She was part and parcel to the whole scheme.
She "remembered" it in 2012 when Kavanaugh was #2 on the list of likely Romney picks. She stewed it over for 8 years and finally decided to pull the trigger in July. She probably thought they would quietly mention it to Kavanaugh and he would quietly withdraw. With six years of "therapy" she absolutely believes it was true.
But it was not.
