After months of negotiations and delays, the White House is moving to fill California’s three vacancies on the influential 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals — over the strenuous objections of the state’s two Democratic senators.
President Trump’s nominees for the appeals court — litigators Daniel Collins and Kenneth Lee and Assistant United States Attorney Patrick Bumatay — are all based in Southern California, are prominent members of the conservative Federalist Society, and have worked for Republican administrations.
None of the three were approved by Feinstein or Harris via a process known as a “blue slip,” the senators’ offices confirmed Thursday.
“Last night the White House moved forward without consulting me, picking controversial candidates from its initial list and another individual with no judicial experience who had not previously been suggested,” Feinstein said in a statement.
“Instead of working with our office to identify consensus nominees for the 9th Circuit, the White House continues to try to pack the courts with partisan judges who will blindly support the President’s agenda, instead of acting as an independent check on this Administration,” Lily Adams, Harris’ communications director, said in a statement.
Traditionally, presidents have deferred to home state senators when nominating federal judges, agreeing not to nominate people unless those senators returned their blue slip in support of the prospective judge.
President Trump and Senate Republicans, however, have done away with that custom, angering Democrats as they pushed forward controversial nominees for appeals court posts in Ohio, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

The Blue Slip is a traditional courtesy of the Senate. But since Feinstein and Harris just got done smearing an entirely innocent man as a gang rapist, I think traditional courtesies are by the boards.
Maybe we can have civility again when the Democrats are run out of town on a rail, and the Democrat Party is reduced to permanent minority status.
Letting Feinstein (or her new commie pinko junior sidekick Harris) have any more influence over repairing , reforming our suck broken and DANGEROUS courts —would be intolerable. Especially after feinstein’s Disgusting misconduct smearing justice Kavanaugh. INTOLERABLE!

That stupid news article sounds as if Trump needs to first run names by two people before he nominates them to whatever court.
It is traditional for the Senate to defer to the wishes of local senators when appointing Federal judges through the “blue slip” process in which senators are given a veto over judges appointed to Federal appeals courts in their state. This is McConnell’s big fat F-U to not-so-Fine-Stein and Harris.
It’s not even subtle. These are not establishment Republican Bushites, these are all male members of the Federalist Society. Paleoconservative red meat.
So much for civility. Not-so-finestine and Harris have expended all their political capital, no one will listen to their whining over this.
When I read blue slip I think of Monica & Bill Clinton.
We need to just tune out the shreaking left. They’ve been packing the courts for many decades, causing untold damage, and they know it. Screw ‘em.
