As is typical of liberals, in taking Trump literally, the author doesn’t take Trump seriously. Blumenthal DID in fact lie about his war record for years—a SERIOUS issue Trump points out. As far as bullets flying & men dying beside him, that’s all fluff, and all people regard it as.
Main thing is, Blumenthal was a liar about his war record—for years.
In my experience, when a Leftist realizes that they lost an argument about some moral defect in one of their leaders, they’ll end it with the assertion that “everybody does it”.

President Trump only called out “Da Nang Dick” Blumenthal because Blumenthal was virtue signaling in the Senate hearing on live television about how people cannot trusting people who lie while he himself is a liar and a thief of valor that he did not earn.
President Trump is focusing on just a few of these leftist hypocrites at a time so that he can effectively label them for life. “Da Nang Dick” has been branded and shamed.
No, they are calculated and brilliant. It immediately changes the focus onto who the jerk is rather than anything he says. Every time he opens his mouth from now on, people will immediately think “Danang Dick”.
Blumenthal needs to do a public appearance correcting the record. “No I did not cry when I admitted that I had not actually served in Vietnam as I originally claimed.” Let’s hear him straighten that out.
But President Trump never claimed he went.

One lied for decades saying that he served with valor in Vietnam. He crept in among those valiant men and women who served in Vietnam.
One did not lie.

The difference being, Trump NEVER LIED about his deferments. Unlike Da Nang Dickie
Trump has never claimed he was in Vietnam.
He also took deferments. So what? Millions did in those years. I went through them. I joined in 1970 for active duty and for whatever reason didn’t go to Vietnam.
I am called a Vietnam ERA veteran. Those like me would never take advantage of that misleading label to pretend we had been in Vietnam. It would be hugely dishonorable. I’ll never know why I ended up in Germany, but I did.
My father-in-law has a similar but more dramatic story. He was on a troop ship for Korea. It stopped in Alaska, and they came aboard asking who could type. He was one of the names that could. He was told to gather his bags and he ended up being a clerk in Alaska for the duration of his tour. Just one of those things. But he’d never lie about being in Korea.
And here I thought the Washington Examiner was a more conservative rag. Another one to scratch off my list.
