Cruz says he's willing to participate in debate with O'Rourke on CNN

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said Friday that he is now willing to debate Rep. Beto O'Rourke (D) on CNN, the Associated Press reported.

O'Rourke was previously scheduled to appear solo in a townhall in McAllen, Texas, on Oct. 18. Cruz had initially accepted CNN's invitation to join O'Rourke, but later declined earlier this week.

"Sen. Ted Cruz's campaign initially accepted CNN's invitation to participate" but has since declined, CNN said in an announcement.

"To be clear, the Cruz campaign proposed that @CNN host one of the Cruz-O’Rourke debates. The O’Rourke campaign declined. @CNN subsequently offered back to back town halls, in which we are unable to participate," Cruz's campaign manager, Jeff Roe, wrote in a tweet.

Cruz was critical of the network earlier this year after one of CNNs graphics accused him of being "afraid" to appear on the network by attending a town hall about school shootings following the February mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla.

Cruz and O'Rourke are locked in a tight Senate race in deep-red Texas, with the Republican incumbent leading by 6 points in the RealClearPolitics polling index. A Quinnipiac University poll released early Thursday showed Cruz with a 9-point lead over O'Rourke.

O’Rourke, on Friday, announced that his campaign had raised more than $38 million in the third quarter of this year, a haul that would rival that of a strong presidential campaign. O'Rourke's victory in the Texas Senate race is seen as one of a few ways in which Democrats could secure control of the upper chamber. The party needs to flip two seats to have a majority in the Senate.

The two are set to debate on Tuesday in San Antonio.

Why walk into an ambush when you are ahead?

A friend of mine lives in McAllen.

A white girl who never, ever sees another white person. The entire town is MS13’s front porch and is nothing but pimps and hookers.

Beto, or “Robert” who likes to tell people that he’s somehow mexican will be welcomed here, but Ted not so much.

Do a debate, but this is going to get ugly in the parking lot.

I sure hope there is a method to Ted’s on-again/off-again game. But it’s not my vote he has to worry about.

Now willing? Beto has avoided the debates.

Ted will KILL him, Only Cruz rivaled Trump in debates, and they are allies now.

Yes.

They’ll give Cruz a lectern 15 inches shorter, a microphone that has static and is 55% quieter in sound output than the other guy’s, shine an impossibly bright spotlight in Cruz’s eyes and give O’Rourke an earpiece with future questions and expert replies with on demand facts from the internet to back them up. Just like the Hillary debates.

Also questions to opponent: Was greatness thrust upon you or do you feel it was a long term destiny for you due to all your many accomplishments? To Cruz: were you always snappish and surly or did you develop that harsh temperament when journalists caught on to what a crook you are and called you on it?

There is a distinct possibility CNN is biased.

Cruz is in reality 25-30 points ahead of Beto.

With the debate, he will win by 40 points.

Donna Brazier will give Beta-male the questions in advance, and Cruz will still mop the floor with him. Cruz is well grounded in the Constitution and what is right. He is also a sharp guy and can think on his feet.

Beta-male is going down.

That is not a tight race. That is like 500,000 voters. It is still sad to me that there are some many socialist wannabes in Texas. The usual suspects. Blacks, Former Mexicans, and Austin.
