A dark horse in the race for Nikki Haley’s UN job
The New York Post ^ | October 12, 2018 | Benny Avni

Posted on 10/12/2018 11:48:43 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Since this week’s surprise announcement that Nikki Haley would depart by year’s end, everyone wants to know who’ll replace America’s UN ambassador — who was first dismissed, then hated, then feared and eventually appreciated, heck, even loved (at least by some).

The answer, obviously, is up to the never-predictable President Trump, so most names bandied about are speculative, with many driven by wishful thinking. So here’s a wish: Christopher Burnham. Never heard of him? You may soon.

Sure, there are other worthy candidates; Washington reporters come up with new ones daily. The much-advertised front-runner, former Deputy National Security Adviser Dina Powell, made clear Thursday she’d rather remain at Goldman Sachs.

Trump said another front-runner, Richard Grenell, is doing a good job as ambassador to Germany, where he seems happy for now.

How about former Sen. Joe Lieberman, the last of the Democratic Party’s foreign-policy hawks and current crusader against Iran’s nuclear ambitions? Or Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Corker of Tennessee?

CNN reports former ambassador to Hungary Nancy Brinker was approached by the White House. Interior secretary Ryan Zinke, a former Navy SEAL and a rising star in Trump circles, is interested in the UN post, according to Fox News.

Former Sen. Kelly Ayotte, Ambassador to Canada Kelly Knight Craft and NATO Ambassador Kay Bailey Hutchison are top contenders as well. And given the politics of the day — and the approaching midterms — it’s a position that could well be decided largely by a candidate’s gender....

I had to read almost to the end of the article, but “...former Marine...” and “...bull in a china shop ...” clinched it for me.

Nikki Haley was such a unique combination of ‘America first’ prowess and conviction combined with cosmopolitan humanitarian instincts made all the more genuine by her background as the child of Indian parents. And being from South Carolina: she merged Southern grit with southern charm.

She was perfect for the U.N. at a moment when people were getting away with spreading garbage about Trump being a new Hitler. It was Haley that reminded everyone that it is in fact the U.S. continuing to do more to help people around the world than anyone else and the U.S. funding the whole darn place!

Diplomacy is an art. Should be interesting to see who replaces her.

Burnham. He ran for Senate in 92 and opposed all restrictions on abortion, opposed parental notification, opposed Mexico city policy, etc.

We believed he has family connections to Planned Parenthood NARAL.

Not somebody we need at the U.N. Funding International planned parenthood

Was not a fan of hers when she turned against the South and sided with Democrat slavery to take that flag down the capitol, and her spiel about needing to believe Kavanaugh accuser was the last straw for me.

I’m not familiar with all those names, but, but NO to Lieberman, and HELL NO to Corker. (Why reward Corker for being an a-hole? What experience does he have?)

How about Sebastian Gorka?
How about KT McFarland?

Oh, please. Nikki Haley was a total sell out when it came to preserving Confederate history and culture. She sold out the soul of her state to bow to her corporate and global masters. She’s totally pro endless war. She’s been really damaging, being a roadblock to President Trump getting honest appraisals about “friends” that are causing world chaos. She said what she dang well pleased, often more in line with the McCain branch of the Republican Party.

Heather Nauert, the State Department spokeswoman who’s doubling as the fourth-ranking American diplomat
She is 48 years old, For years she was on Fox News. Very Smart, very good communicator.

Rick Grenell ambassador to Germany

KT MacFarland, lots of experience.

Condi Rice. Former Sec. Of State.

Condoleeza Rice???

Even if she says no, and Trump knows she intends to say no, it would play well for the mid-terms as long as Ms Rice waits to formally say no.

Agree. Kay Bailey Hutchison? Bob Corker Joe LIEberman? Hell no!

I thought the suggestion of Alan Keyes is hilarious just because you could imagine the liberal meltdown. And Keyes IS actually well qualified but the job but I'd be worried he'd open his mouth and say something toxic during the confirmation process.
