The conservative national security community in Washington is not known for its enlightened thinking on gender identity. Yet, so far, Giselle said, she has received nothing but support from her bosses at the American Enterprise Institute, where she works as a resident fellow in defense and security studies.
AEI President Arthur Brooks and Vice President for Foreign Policy Danielle Pletka told me their decision to support Giselle was a simple one, since she’s the same person dedicated to the same principles that made her a good fit for the institution all this time. “We are proud that she is part of the AEI family,” they told me.

Here you go - the most telling sentence in the entire article: “Giselle and Beth shared a love of national security, wine, gender fluidity and BDSM.” I’ll let your mind take it from there.
I thought part of "enlightenment" had to do with accepting the evidence provided by hypothesis testing and reproducible results, rather than believing in things as true because you wish it to be so.
In that sense (you know, the English language sense), who's "enlightened" with regard to gender "identity"?

I have always thought highly of Brooks, but if he is enabling mental illness like this ... Sex/identity is one of a small handful of fundamental and interconnected motivating impulses for the human being, and if that is screwed up everything else is suspect. I have long accepted the premise the “Mental illness is the inability to recognize and comply with reality.” These people are mentally ill, and the slightest suggestion that they are acceptable is corrosive to a stable, virtuous, and well-functioning society. Brooks’ first charitable act on hearing of this freakishness was to get the man into some serious traditional reality-based psychotherapy.

Maybe that’s because they are more concerned with NATIONAL SECURITY.
