The Trump administration today (9 Oct) announced that it will waive 28 laws to speed construction of gates and other border-wall infrastructure in Cameron County, Texas, including areas adjacent to a national wildlife refuge. The waiver is intended to speed border-wall construction by sweeping aside laws that protect clean air, clean water, public lands and endangered wildlife. This is fourth time the Trump administration has used the REAL ID waiver.

Looks like some new border barrier segments are heading into the contracting process - eleven segments totaling 6.6 miles, in the Lower Rio Grande Valley (around Brownsville). It will basically fill some of the gaps in the existing barrier built there under President Bush.

In other border wall news, the last panel was put in place this week in the Calexico, CA replacement project, where rusty old scrap metal fence (which I personally would be game to try hopping over if I wanted) was replaced with towering thirty foot bollards (which I personally would never attempt).

The twenty miles West of El Paso (Santa Teresa) is also reportedly wrapping up setting their bollard panels into the concrete footings, and is focusing on finishing the road and cleaning up - preparing for inspection and handover.

Here are the new segments around Brownsville, Texas (in yellow), revealed in the latest waiver:

The Texas Tribune reports:

One of the gaps the U.S. Border Patrol will close is in the Texas Nature Conservancy’s Southmost Preserve... Spokeswoman Vanessa Martin said the conservancy received a letter on Tuesday regarding the project... Martin said the conservancy has been told the project will be complete in the spring of 2019. A U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman said the agency could not share a timeline “at this point.”

They should use the same rules the Chinese used building the Great Wall. Shut up and stack those bricks.

No construction will do more environmental damage than the 10’s of thousands illegally crossing into our country. The border wall is environmental protection.

I prefer American Endangered Species to Mexican ones.

I assume that makes me a Bigot or something.

Speaking of which, does anyone have a link to the video of the Mexican who DID jump down a new 30 foot tall section?

Broke both legs.

Great idea. Catch them at the border and make them build the wall. Use Cartel money as well.

I’d like to have a 50 foot depth of rotating grinders to greet jumpers.

Wouldn't a wall simply add to that diversity?

“Center for Biological Diversity”

This same Leftist front group sued the Trump Administration for using the same type of waiver to build 20 miles of barrier West of El Paso.

The last of the towering steel bollard panels there are already curing in their massive concrete foundations. Construction crews are finishing up the patrol road, and have already started clean up, getting ready for acceptance inspection.

This time around, progress is not being held up, waiting for these nuisance lawsuits to wind through the courts.

There are 33 miles worth of segments around McAllen, Texas on track for contract award sometime after Christmas, but it seems that there are many other segments in the planning and contracting process, with no public notice, like these whose waivers were just announced (in the past, contract award has come quickly after the waivers were invoked). The four miles in downtown El Paso recently started work, having been revealed to the public just the day before.

Wall building is set to pick up speed in the next few months, with lots of segments being awarded. If we get the $5 billion in FY19 funds that they are talking about, we will really be off to the races.

And nothing will go extinct or have to struggle for survival....will help prove the current laws are way overboard.
