In a windowless conference room, Republican Senate candidate Martha McSally was asking executives at a small crane manufacturing company how the GOP tax cut has helped their business when one woman said: I want to ask you a question about health care.
Marylea Evans recounted how, decades ago, her husband had been unable to get health insurance after developing cancer, forcing the couple to sell some of their Texas ranch to pay for his treatment. Now she was worried about Democratic ads saying McSally, currently a congresswoman, supported legislation removing the requirement that insurers cover people with pre-existing medical conditions.
Its a lie, McSally said quickly, accustomed to having to interrupt a discussion of the tax cut to parry attacks on health care. But she had voted for a wide-ranging bill that would have, among other things, undermined protections for people with pre-existing conditions and drastically changed and shrunk Medicaid.
The exchange demonstrated how Democratic arguments about health care are resonating with voters in the final weeks before the midterm elections. While Democratic enthusiasm this year has largely been fueled by anger toward President Donald Trump, candidates have targeted their messaging to focus more on health care.
Its the subject of the greatest share of political ads on television now, according to a Wall Street Journal analysis, and a top issue in campaigns from Virginia to Arkansas to California and especially in Arizona, where Democratic Rep. Kyrsten Sinema has made it the foundation of her Senate campaign against McSally.

Now the pre-existing issue passes through the Overton Window and Republicans immediately concede to the Dems on this point.
Obamacare should have been completely repealed.
Medicare, Medicaid, and all other federal healthcare programs should have been turned over to the states.
Then the healthcare market should have been completely deregulated.
But no....No-Name and his cohorts of RINO pansies wanted to continue the Muh Russia fake probe instead of implementing the GOP's agenda.
The Democrat ads in our state are telling these lies, too. They claim the mean Republicans are taking away everybody’s health care, tossing people off Medicaid, and destroying Medicare. It’s the same old crap, but many people fall for it apparently.
I don’t have healthcare right now because 0bamacare destroyed the private market here.
Obamacare has wreaked havoc on the nation’s healthcare system, and many Americans are paying higher premiums because of it, yet the Dems are doubling down on it as a last gasp campaign issue. It’s a political Hail Mary the Democrats are signaling with this move. It’s an admission that they know things are not going well for them.
Hey, THEY gave us the Affordable Frickin’ Care Act! Healthcare cost is on them.
The GOP needs to flood the joint with ads telling the seniors that the ‘RATS are going with “medicare for all”. Seniors are toast.
Same BS ads running in the Maine Second Congressional race, too.
The incumbent Republican took money from the drug companies, wants to deny coverage to Mainers with pre-existing conditions, blah blah.
They all use the same playbook.
It’s actually a smart play. Obamacare is remarkably popular in many circles
2006 I was a small business owner. My private PPO Blue Cross plan was $85 a month with a $1500 deductible - incl dental.
Now.... its sooooo much better at $475 a month with a $5000 deductible and less options and coverage.
Thanks a ton Ms crane union preexisting condition lady. Can I take some more money directly from my familys bank acct and just give it to you directly? Im just dying to pay more - for you.
When you’re still trying to figure out your election messaging in mid-October, you’ve got problems.
Then the Democrats ought not have lost in 2010 and 2014.
Even worse when the obsequious media is playing catch-up too. Boils down to having no message, never mind the “jobs not mobs” meme snapping at your tail.
Same as in Texas lots of ads saying Texans will have to pay an addtional 12K per.
Our neighbors have a sign in their yard for the Democrat running for governor. It frustrates me that their vote will cancel out ours. Oh well.... nothing will stop me from showing up to vote.
John McCain’s gift to the Dems this election.
And it’s the Dems’ Number One appeal.
What a guy!
Yes, among Democrats not Republicans.
Yes, these guys have a very short memory.
Ya just gotta love how the fool Dems start switching “strategies” on a daily basis when they get desperate because nothing is working ... and what really happens when the Dems start doing that is that people start to realize that the Dems will simply say and do anything that they think will get them elected and that the Dems don’t really stand for anything EXCEPT getting elected ...
