Donald Trump on occasion can talk recklessly. He is certainly trying to fundamentally transform the United States in exactly the opposite direction from which Barack Obama promised to do the same sort of massive recalibration. According to polls (such as they are), half the country fears Trump. The media despises him. Yet Trump poses no threat to the U.S. Constitution. Those who since 2016 have tried to destroy his candidacy and then his presidency most certainly do.
When, and if, we ever lose our freedoms, it will not likely be due to a boisterous Donald Trump, damning fake news at popular rallies, or even by being greeted with jarring lock her up chantsTrump, whom the popular culture loves to hate and whose every gesture and, indeed, every inch of his body, is now analyzed, critiqued, caricatured, and damned on the national news.
In general, free societies more often become unfree with a whimper, not a bangand usually due to self-righteous pious movements that always claim the higher moral ground, and justify their extreme means by their self-sacrificing struggle for supposedly noble ends of social justice, equality, and fairness.
Media darlings, not media ogres, receive a veritable free pass to ignore constitutional norms. Champions of bipartisan consensus, the people, and the power of big government to do the right thing and advance social justice are the more dangerous to watch, not those championing the rights of the individual, and small and less intrusive government. Hillary Clinton, with a $1 billion war chest, a court media, and an array of highly paid pros, not the fly-by-night, improvised Trump campaign, was the expression of big media, big politics, big government, and big money eager to have one of their compliant own in the White House.

Trump’s reckless talk is proof that he is not a politician. Politicians focus on what they say, and it usually involves candy coating what they are actually doing. Trump says what he wants and then does what he can. It’s why he’s a great president. And I say that as a former detractor. Strong detractor, I might add. Strong enough to get temp-banned here twice over it.
I remember the NeverTrumpers claiming that we needed to support Hillary to “save our Constitution”.
I certainly didn’t agree with them at the time, but perhaps they were right.
With Trump winning and naming judges, all we see now are Democrat attacks on our Constitution.

This is so spot-on, it’s as tasty as an ice cream sundae.
Vic can write.

Yup. He’s a breath of fresh air; there is no phoniness about him. He arrived on the “political” scene none too soon.

I guess we have a choice. We can see with Donald Trump as president, that there are Democrats trying to damage the Constitution. On the other hand, with someone like Hillary or certain others as president, they would have it half-destroyed by now.
The greatest achievement of Donald Trump may well be the exposure of the deep state which comprises elements of both sides of the aisle, a collusive and incredibly biased media and the full illustration of just what damage they have done and intend to do to the republic.
I first was introduced to Victor Davis Hanson by his outstanding military histories, both modern and ancient. This article is typically thoughtful.

Socrates could not have said better.
The Federal Reserve, and printed, fiat, manipulated money - which is the absolute Sine qua non of big government and socialists.

Oh to have people who can write, actually wake out of slumber and realize how desperate the times are. It is open _warfare_ with limited bloodshed, so far.
“Vic can write.”
Victor Hansen is one of our great conservative intellectuals. He takes the complex and puts it in language that is very easy to comprehend.
Please re-read your post and repost. Something isn’t right.
The logic of what you intended to say escapes me.
You either forgot a “not” or changed your sentence logic in mid-flight.
What Gnashed Teeth and the other NeverTrumpers kept saying, in effect, was that if Hillary doesn’t win, then the Constitution is in danger...implying, of course, that Trump was going to destroy the Constitution.
Well, Hillary lost and they were right that the Constitution is in danger, but it’s in danger due to Hillary, not Trump.

So your line of thinking goes thusly? The rapist said “Marry me or I will rape you!” and the woman said no and now the rapist is attacking her to rape her so she should have said yes?
Wow.
