Who is Jamal Khashoggi? (Journalist killed? in Turkey at SA Embassy)

One of the most influential Arab journalists in the world, Jamal Khashoggi, went missing after entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul last week. Turkish authorities have blamed the Saudis, but Riyadh has denied harming the veteran reporter.

Jamal Khashoggi, 59, was born in Medina, Saudi Arabia, one of the holiest cities in Islam. Like many Saudis at the time, Khashoggi left to study abroad. He earned a business administration degree in 1983 at Indiana State University in the United States.

Career in journalism

Khashoggi began his career as a reporter for the English language newspaper Saudi Gazette. He went on to work for several Arab newspapers and made his mark as a foreign correspondent covering Afghanistan, Algeria, Sudan and the Middle East in the 1990s. During that time, he met and befriended Osama bin Laden, who was fighting in Afghanistan against the Russians. Khashoggi interviewed bin Laden several times during that period.

He was deputy editor-in-chief of Arab News, the leading English newspaper of Saudi Arabia, from 1999 to 2003. He was named editor-in-chief of the Al Watan newspaper in 2003 but the job lasted only two months.

After he was fired from Al Watan, Khashoggi became media adviser to Saudi Prince Turki bin Faisal, the former head of Saudi Arabia’s General Intelligence Directorate, who served as the Saudi ambassador to Washington from 2005 until the end of 2006.

On his personal website, Khashoggi writes he was reinstated as editor-in-chief at Al Watan in 2007 and served for three years before being fired again for “pushing the boundaries of debate within Saudi society.”

In 2010 he was made general manager of a new 24-hour Arabic news channel, Al-Arab, in Manama, Bahrain. The news channel was ordered off the air within 11 hours of its launch.

Self-imposed exile

Since then, Khashoggi has been a political commentator, appearing on several Arab and international news channels and writing for a number of publications and on social media.

He went into a self-imposed exile in the United States last year, fearing for his safety after Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman began consolidating his position and cracking down on critics. He told Al Jazeera TV’s Upfront in March that he left the kingdom “because I don’t want to be arrested.”

Khashoggi comes from a powerful and well-known family in Saudi Arabia. He is the grandson of Muhammad Khashoggi, a Turkish doctor who married a Saudi woman and served as the personal physician for King Abdulaziz Al Saud, the founder of the kingdom.

Jamal Khashoggi is the nephew of Adnan Khashoggi, a Saudi businessman and arms dealer known for his part in the Iran-Contra scandal. Adnan Khashoggi was the middleman in the arms-for-hostages deal. In the 1980s, Adnan Khashoggi was estimated to have a net worth of $4 billion.

Jamal Khashoggi’s cousin, Dodi Fayed, was dating Britain’s Princess Diana when the two were killed in a car crash in Paris.

Is he actually dead?

Who did it?

Were they Saudi Arabian agents?

Were they Iranian Agents?

Were they Turkish Agents?

Were this done to divide Saudi Arabian and U.S. cooperation?

Multiple plays at work in steering #Khashoggi case: Erdogan’s negotiations with #SaudiArabia over disappearance is apparently being undermined by pro-Iranian officials in Turkish gov’t that leaks/feeds the media anonymously. #Erdogan trying to get a grip on the case & contain.

1) Here is the flashback for those who wonder what would happen with Turkish investigation into #Khashoggi disappearance. #Erdogan’s intimate ties with Saudi national Yasin al-Qadi, one-time listed al-Qaeda financier by the UN and the US, may give some clues.

2) #Erdogan called him as a close friend and brought him to #Turkey when it was illegal for him to enter under Turkish and UN sanction laws. He secretly met him and intelligence chief Hakan Fidan several times, poured cash into Erdogan family business interests.

CNN? They do have a big branch in Turkey. BUT, it is totally 100% propaganda. Absolutely nothing comes out of Turkey except Propaganda approved by Erdogan the Islamist Dictator of Turkey.

Not saying it is not as you suggested, but my gut tells me that is not the full answer. I posted some hints at what might be in play.

I was delayed posting the list of Tweets from Abdullah Bozkurt. He is very well informed.

I had the tweets collected but it had a html code the made the text run together when I previewed it. It took me a minute or two to correct it in an editor and actually post it.

I left out the explanation I had put in it originally.

I think Iran and Turkey have a hand in this. Would not surprise me if it was done to divide the US and SA.

There is little doubt that Khashoggi was not a classic journalist but an Islamist opinion writer with access to Western media. He liked to criticize the Saudi royals. The 9/11 Saudis respond to criticism as if someone is dripping acid on their brain. No rational person should be surprised that the 9/11 Saudis would kill this man in one of their consulates. Nor should anyone be astonished that the thug Islamist Erdogan would squeeze the Saudis for al he can over this murder or the Iranians use it for their purposes. Nor should anyone be surprised that the Saudi bought and well paid for influence they have in the media joins the chorus of 9/11 Saudi defenders. Face it. The Saudis have a well stocked tent, welcome toall who will collude, in the swamp.

Nevertheless all this murderous itrigue reflects the current insolvable turmoil in the Islamic world. Islamic culture cannot stand up to the challenge of Western modernity. The individual freedoms, institutions and values of the West are not compatible with Islamic culture. Yet with modern digital communications, travel, business and a modicum of education the people in these repressive societies are demanding change. Hence the turmoil, violence and the desperate reactionary attempts of the vile 9/11 Saudi royals, the deluded corrupt Erdogan and the medieval mullahs to secure their status and privilege. Americans cannot change these societies by force. It will be a very long time before there are enough enlightened people in these forsaken places before they become decent places to live.

Exactly. I think Erdogan has a hand in it. Some probable involvement of al Qaeda or Iran.

So many Islamist terrorists are free to move and active in Turkey who protects even ISIS.

Not a good place to visit or live.

I am personally finding it really hard to get stirred up about this one.

He was a journalist, and the Mecca of Fake News (CNN) is apparently the ones stirring the pot about one of their own, also affiliated with the libswamp WaCompost.

A death is certainly a tragedy for his family and those that knew him, prayers for that group. Not so much tragedy or concern for the rest of the world, in contrast for the Fake Newsers trying to make it so.

But ask yourself, did the death of one, for example, say Andrew Breitbart, get the same level of international outpouring of attention?

I did not know about what the journalist wrote.

I did read he was educated in the West and did push for modernization in SA.

There appears to be a dispute as to what he actually supported.

He was in Turkey. A totalitarian Islamist cesspool. Looks like someone ended him. Lets see how the SA King deals with Turkey on this one.

Well... from WND... but interesting...:

“Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s new business partner. His name is Jamal A. Khashoggi, and he’s heading the recently announced joint media venture between Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal and Bloomberg News. “
