Its one thing to lose an election; it happens to everyone in politics.
Its one thing to lose a sports match; it happens in every sport.
But something even rarer is happening in American politics right now, the losers dont know why theyre losing and many of them dont even realize theyre losing at all.
In this case, the losers are the Democrats. They not only lost the 2016 presidential election, but continue to lose major battles with the Republicans over key issues like tax reform and the Brett Kavanaugh Supreme Court confirmation.
Many of them are shocked by these losses for a number of reasons. But they mostly stem from a fundamental lack of understanding of President Donald Trump and his supporters, with a lack of self-awareness thrown in.
If you have family members, friends, or acquaintances who dislike President Trump intensely, (and it seems like we all do), theres a good chance these are the three biggest mistakes theyre making when they try to understand, let alone debate, people on the other side.

First rule... Don’t keep anti-Trump friends.
Good article.
They don't seem to get the significance of this, or at least, they don't care -- which means, basically, they aren't your friends, and they don't understand anything worth understanding.
Thanks Iron Munro:
So true.
It’s best not to even talk to them because it’s better they stay in their confused and deluded state.
Amen bro. You took the words right out of my mouth. 👍

That’s right. Besides, it is a total waste of time.
It’s not wise to celebrate winning when the conflict is ongoing.
Does even this need to be excerpted? Blog articles can be posted right here in their entirety. We could appreciate it without having to leave FR if you did.
All of these factors favor the Republicans and Trump supporters because it makes it easier to keep their opponents off their game. The Democrats cant defeat what they dont understand, and they cant understand what they dont see.
And I just keep encouraging their anger, which is diffuse enough, they can’t focus...
Basically, I them so narrow minded they can see through a key hole at 100 yards
“First rule... Dont keep anti-Trump friends.”
Excellent.
I was just going to say that I don’t have, nor want anti-Trump friends.
“Trump supporters would have to be living under a rock not to hear a daily dose of attacks on the president. They come from news broadcasts, entertainment TV and movies, and even in sports contests. There is no escape.
By contrast, Trump haters can easily avoid ever hearing any praise for him or his policies at any time. They may enjoy not having to hear the other side, but it comes with the likely lack of realization that there is any other side at all.
All of these factors favor the Republicans and Trump supporters because it makes it easier to keep their opponents off their game. The Democrats cant defeat what they dont understand, and they cant understand what they dont see.”
There’s plenty to read but I really like his conclusion. He hits the nail straight down the z axis on this one.
Excellent article.
I have anti-Trump inlaws. I can’t imagine having anti-Trump friends, but I do see slight signs of Trump becoming a bit more palatable to the “chattering classes” perhaps through battle fatigue, you can only get knocked to the canvas so many times before you realize you are out of your league.
And like Ronald Reagan, the ritual never-ending criticism starts to sound a bit hollow even to the true believers who aren’t really seeing all the things they expected to see. They may never totally come around, but they will soften their opposition over time if they start to suspect they look ridiculous to enough other people.
I try to let them know in subtle ways that they look ridiculous to me. When they pontificate and lecture, here’s what I say: “Yes, it would be a better world if people would listen to what smart people say and modified their behaviour accordingly. But unfortunately, nobody seems to be listening to me.”
When that sinks in and a hollow, half-rejecting laugh follows, I know I have made my point, and I return to my padded cell where all of us Canadian thought prisoners must spend our days.
Agree on both accounts!
I have no real friends.
Anti Trumpsters hate him because of the propaganda, pro Trumpsters like him despite the propaganda.
I have a few Anti-Trump “friends” that I just stay far away from them in hopes that they’ll see the light one day, but I’m not holding my breath.
I have a few Anti-Trump “ex-friends” that I’m pretty sure I’ll never see or speak to again.
I won’t have anyone left...........well, a couple.
I am sure you will survive. I havent had problems finding Trump supporting friends. On the other hand, I have run into a few never Trumpers. I havent given them the chance to become friendly. To me, life is too short, to put up with idiots.
